Perdita Elizabeth Barran is a Professor of Mass Spectrometry at the University of Manchester. She is Director of the Michael Barber Centre for Collaborative Mass Spectrometry. She develops and applies ion-mobility spectrometry–mass spectrometry to the study of molecule structure and is searching for biomarkers for Parkinson's disease. She co-leads the mass spectrometry theme for the Rosalind Franklin Institute. She was awarded the 2009 Joseph Black award from the Royal Society of Chemistry Analytical Division. Education and early career Barran went to Godolphin and Latymer School. She moved to the University of Manchester to study chemistry, graduating in 1994. The Hon. Perdita Caroline Buchan (born 16 December 1940) is an Anglo- American author and journalist. As a writer she uses her maiden name, but is also known by her married name of Perdita Buchan Connolly. Background Buchan was born in 1940, the eldest child of the Anglo-Scottish author William Buchan (1916–2008), who more than fifty years later became Baron Tweedsmuir, by his first marriage in 1939 to Nesta Irene Crozier (1918–2009), the daughter of Charles Darley Crozier, a barrister. Perdita Felicien
Perdita Felicien (born August 29, 1980) is a Canadian retired hurdler. Felicien is the 2003 World champion in the 100 metres hurdles and 2004 World indoor champion in the 60 metres hurdles. She also won silver medals at the 2007 World Championships, the 2010 World Indoor Championships, and twice at the Pan American Games. Her best time for the 100 metres hurdles of 12.46 secs from 2004 still stands as the Canadian record. Early life Born in Oshawa, Ontario, Felicien carries her mother's maiden name, whose origins are in the Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia. Perdita Huston
Perdita Constance Huston (May 2, 1936 – December 4, 2001) was an American journalist and women's rights activist. She is commemorated by the international Perdita Huston Human Rights Award. Born in Portland, Maine, Huston studied in France and later worked in Africa. She was director of public affairs for TIME magazine in French-speaking countries, and in 1978 became a Regional Director of the Peace Corps. Her first book "Message from the Village" was also published in 1978. She later worked for the World Conservation Union (IUCN) in Switzerland and at the International Planned Parenthood Federation ( IPPF) in London and acted as consultant with UNDP, UNIFEM, UNFPA and UNICEF. Perdita (genus)
''Perdita'' is a large genus of small bees native to North America, particularly diverse in the desert regions of the United States and Mexico. There are over 600 currently recognized species of ''Perdita'', plus more than 100 additional subspecies and many more species that remain undescribed. ''Perdita'' are usually quite small (2.0 mm to 10.0 mm) and often brightly colored with metallic reflections and/or yellow or white markings, and among the few lineages of bees incapable of stinging. The genus was extensively treated by P.H. Timberlake who, in addition to T.D.A. Cockerell, described most of the known species. Most species are extreme specialists (oligoleges) with respect to pollen and will only collect pollen from a few closely related species or genera of plants. Perdita (moon)
Perdita is an inner satellite of Uranus. Perdita's discovery was complicated. The first photographs of Perdita were taken by the ''Voyager 2'' spacecraft in 1986, but it was not recognized from the photographs for more than a decade. In 1999, the moon was noticed by Erich Karkoschka and reported. But because no further pictures could be taken to confirm its existence, it was officially demoted in 2001. However, in 2003, pictures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope managed to pick up an object where Perdita was supposed to be, finally confirming its existence. Following its discovery in 1999, it was given the temporary designation of S/1986 U 10.
