People's Press (Beijing)
People's Press (), commonly known as People's Publishing House, abbreviated as PPH, is a China's state-run and CCP-run comprehensive publishing house based in Beijing, which mainly publishes books on philosophy and social sciences, and is the official publisher of political and ideological books for the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese Government. People's Publishing House was originally established 1 September 1921, and was rebuilt on 1 December 1950. Its important publications include classic works of Marxism, and works by "Leaders of the Party and State" (党和国家领导人) of the People's Republic of China. In 1986, Ge Jianxiong's dissertation, ''Population Geography of the Western Han Dynasty'' (西汉人口地理), was published as a monograph by the People's Publishing House, which was the first doctoral thesis of history published in the PRC China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a country in East Asia. Commercial Press
The Commercial Press () is the first modern publishing organisation in China. History In 1897, 26-year-old Xia Ruifang and three of his friends (including the Bao brothers Bao Xian'en and Bao Xianchang) founded The Commercial Press in Shanghai. All four were Protestant Christians who received their training at the American Presbyterian Mission Press. The group soon received financial backing and began publishing books such as Bibles. In 1914, Xia attempted to buy out a Japanese company that had invested in The Commercial Press. Four days later he was assassinated. There was much speculation as to who was behind the assassination; no one was ever arrested for the crime. Zhonghua Book Company (), formerly spelled Chunghwa or Chung-hua Shu-chü, and sometimes translated as Zhonghua Publishing House, are Chinese publishing houses that focuses on the humanities, especially classical Chinese works. Currently it has split into a few separate companies. The main headquarters is in Beijing, while Chung Hwa Book (Hong Kong) is headquartered in Hong Kong. Ge Jianxiong
Ge Jianxiong (; born 15 December 1945) is a Chinese historical geographer. He is a professor and the former Director of the Institute of Historical Geography of Fudan University in Shanghai, and Director of the Fudan University Library. His research focus is on historical population movements and human geography. Ge is also a well-known public figure in China. He is a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and is on the Advisory Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Government.
