People's Poet Of Azerbaijan
People’s Poet of Azerbaijan (Azerbaijani: ''Xalq şairi)'' is the honorary title granted to the prominent poets of Azerbaijan for their contribution to the development of Azerbaijani literature. Assignment The honorary title "People's Poet of Azerbaijan" was established by Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 22, 1998, along with some other titles. The President of Azerbaijan confers the honorary title on his initiative, as well as on the proposal of the National Assembly and the Cabinet of Ministers. The title is awarded only to citizens of Azerbaijan. According to the decree, the honorary title of "People's Poet of Azerbaijan" cannot be awarded to the same person repeatedly. A person awarded an honorary title may be deprived of the title in the cases of misconduct. Azerbaijani () or Azeri (), also referred to as Azeri Turkic or Azeri Turkish, is a Turkic language from the Oghuz sub-branch spoken primarily by the Azerbaijani people, who live mainly in the Republic of Azerbaijan where the North Azerbaijani variety is spoken, and in the Azerbaijan region of Iran, where the South Azerbaijani variety is spoken. Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh
Bakhtiyar Mahmud oghlu Vahabzadeh (; August 16, 1925 – February 13, 2009) was an Azerbaijani poet, dramatist, lyricist and translator as well as a college professor and politician. He is often regarded as one of the greatest contemporary poets of Azerbaijan. Life Vahabzadeh was born in 1925 in Nukha (now Shaki) where his bust now stands on a central square. With his family he moved to Baku in 1934 and later studied philology at Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University). He would remain there as a professor till 1990 except during 1962- 1964 when expelled for nationalist leanings. During that time he survived dire poverty by selling his wife's jewellery. They had three children, Gulzar, Isfandiyar and Azer. Isfandiyar was named Azerbaijan's ambassador to Moldova. Vahabzadeh died in Baku on February 13, 2009, aged 83. Zelimkhan Yaqub
Zelimkhan Yaqub (; 21 January 1950 – 9 January 2016) was an Azerbaijani poet. He served as a deputy of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan from 1995 to 2005. He was also named the national poet of Azerbaijan in 2005. Life Zelimkhan Yaqub was born on January 21, 1950, in Bolnisi Municipality, Georgian SSR, Soviet Union. He graduated from high school in the village where he was born in 1967, and in 1972 from the library faculty of the Azerbaijan State University. Khalil Rza Uluturk ( az, Xəlil Rza Ulutürk), (21 October 1932, Salyan – 22 June 1994, Baku) was an Azerbaijani poet. Fikrat Goja ( az, Fikrət Qoca, 25 August 1935 – 5 May 2021) was an Azerbaijani poet. He was honored as a People's Poet of Azerbaijan in 1998. Early life and education Goja was born in Agdash. He attended Maxim Gorky Literature Institute of Moscow, graduating in 1964. "The Woman Who Couldn't Find Words" was Goja's first published poem. Goja described it as "about a woman who was surprised about everything all of the time. She couldn't understand the things that were going on in the world around her." Jabir Novruz (born Jabir Mirzebey oglu Novruzov, 12 March 1933 – died 12 December 2002) was an honored art worker and the national poet of Azerbaijan, and secretary of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers for three decades. Considered one of the most prominent authors of modern Azerbaijani poetry, his work is known for a romantic style that inspired patriotism.
