Penske PC-21
The Penske PC-21 was a CART Penske Racing car which competed in the 1992 IndyCar season, alongside the older PC-20 chassis. In 1992, it scored 5 race wins, all with Emerson Fittipaldi, including the season-opening round in Australia, and the special Marlboro Challenge at Nazareth, eventually placing 4th at the season's end respectively. The car was designed by Nigel Bennett, his 3rd for Penske Racing. It was powered by the Ilmor-Chevrolet 265-A turbo engine. Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park is a 450-acre (180 ha) motorsport racing complex, located in Chandler, Arizona, United States, about southeast of downtown Phoenix. History The facility opened as Firebird International Raceway in 1983. In 1985, Firebird hosted the NHRA Fallnationals, the first National NHRA event held at the complex. Nigel Bennett (born 19 November 1949) an English and Canadian actor, director, and writer who has been based in Canada since 1986. He is best known for playing the vampire patriarch Lucien LaCroix in the TV series ''Forever Knight'', for which he won the Canadian Gemini Award for best supporting actor in a dramatic series. Nazareth Speedway
Nazareth Speedway was an auto racing facility near Nazareth in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania which operated from 1910 to 2004 in two distinct course configurations. In its early years, it was a dirt twin oval layout. In 1987 it was reopened as a paved tri-oval that measured just slightly under 1 mile. The facility is often linked to local drivers Mario and Michael Andretti's early racing careers. It was also associated with Frankie Schneider due to his large number of wins on the two dirt tracks. As of November 2015, the site was purchased by Raceway Properties LLC under David Jaindl. There are no current plans to return racing to the facility. Marlboro Challenge
The Marlboro Challenge was an all-star race in the CART series race held from 1987–1992, sponsored by cigarette brand Marlboro. After 1992, the race was discontinued, in part because Phillip Morris reorganized its race sponsorship after the Marlboro Grand Prix of New York fell through. The race was considered a non-points exhibition race, and did not count towards championship standings or official statistics. Twelve drivers qualified for the 1987 race, although only ten started the race. In the other editions, ten drivers were selected. The selection criteria were as follows: all race winners and pole position winners since the previous year's Marlboro Challenge; previous year's season champion; and defending Indianapolis 500 winner. The 1992 PPG Indy Car World Series season was the 14th national championship season of American open wheel racing sanctioned by CART ( d.b.a "IndyCar"). The season consisted of 16 races. Bobby Rahal was the national champion, his third and final career CART title. Stefan Johansson was named the Rookie of the Year. The 1992 Indianapolis 500 was sanctioned by USAC, but counted towards the CART points championship. Al Unser Jr. won the Indy 500 in the closest finish in the history of that event.
