Jurong East
Jurong East is a planning area and residential town situated in the West Region of Singapore. It borders Jurong West and Boon Lay to the west, Clementi to the east, Tengah and Bukit Batok to the north and Selat Jurong to the south. First developed in the 1970s, it is located approximately west of the Downtown Core district. Jurong East is the 7th most populated planning area in the West Region. Jurong East, along with the entire Jurong area in general, is envisioned to be the country's second central business district (CBD) as part of the Jurong Lake District project. Ayer Rajah Expressway
The Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) extends from the western end of the Marina Coastal Expressway in the south of Singapore to Tuas in the west near the Tuas Second Link to Malaysia. Together with the Marina Coastal Expressway and the East Coast Parkway, it forms a second east-west link to complement the role played by the Pan Island Expressway. As from 29 December 2013, ECP and AYE are no longer linked together after MCE was opened. History Construction on the expressway commenced in 1983, with the first two phases completed by 1988. This section involved the widening of several existing roads along the way, such as Ayer Rajah Road and Upper Ayer Rajah Road, as well as the construction of what was then the longest road viaduct, the Keppel Viaduct, from where the eastern end of the expressway commences. SMRT Buses is a bus operator in Singapore. A subsidiary of SMRT Corporation, it traded as Trans Island Bus Services until 10 May 2004. History Trans-Island Bus Services (1983–2004) In April 1981, Communications & Labour Minister Ong Teng Cheong announced the government would grant a license to an operator that was willing to compete with Singapore Bus Service (SBS), that had operated all services in Singapore since 1973, with the aim of improving service levels. In January 1982, City Shuttle Service operator Singapore Shuttle Bus (SSB) lodged applications with the Ministry of Communications to establish a second bus operator and the Registry Of Vehicles for four bus depots. The applications were approved on 12 March that year, with SSB to take over 11 services in Woodlands and Sembawang from SBS. Tower Transit
Tower Transit was a bus company operating in East and West London. They were a subsidiary of the Kelsian Group and operated services under contract to Transport for London. In December 2021, Tower Transit's West London operations were transferred to RATP Dev Transit London. In June 2022, their remaining operations were sold to Stagecoach London. West Coast Highway, Singapore
West Coast Highway (; ms, Lebuhraya Pantai Barat; ta, மேற்கு கடற்கரை நெடுஞ்சாலை) is a major arterial road in Singapore which links Jurong industrial estate and Clementi New Town to the city. It is an at-grade intersection, at-grade road from its junction with Pandan Loop and West Coast Road to its interchange with Pasir Panjang Road, where it becomes a grade separation, grade-separated viaduct; the viaduct merges with Keppel Road before its interchange with Ayer Rajah Expressway. The total length of the highway is 11 km. The viaduct is newer than the at-grade section, having been completed in 2006. Despite what its name may suggest, the speed limit on the highway is less than that of an expressway. The highway also has a few traffic light junctions, something that expressways do not have. Jalan Buroh
Jalan Buroh () is a major arterial road in western Singapore. It runs along the Industrial sector, industrial areas of Pandan, Tanjong Penjuru and Pioneer. Etymology "Buroh" in the old spelling of "Buruh" means "labour" in Malay Language, Malay. As with many Malay roads in Singapore, it still retains the older spelling. History The road was built during the era of industrialization in the 60s. A part of the road was originally named "Jalan Kimia" ("''Kimia''" meaning "''chemistry''" in Malay), it was renamed to "Jalan Buroh" in 1972. The name was chosen to reflect the industrial nature of the area. Other roads in the area also bare Malay names, including "Jalan Pabrik" (Jurong Port Road), "Jalan Gudang" (Jurong Pier Road), "Jalan Gerabak" (Tractor Road) of which many have been renamed to English by JTC Corporation.
