Pembroke RFC
Pembroke Rugby Football Club is a Welsh rugby union team based in Pembroke. They currently play in the Welsh National League Division Five West and are a feeder club for the Llanelli Scarlets. They are known locally as the Scarlets relating to the colour of their shirts. History Pembroke Rugby Football Club was established in 1896. It celebrated its centenary in the 1996–1997 season with a centenary dinner held in a marquee on the club ground. David Vaughan (Dunvant) was the chief guest. The club was not granted Welsh Rugby Union status until 1919, immediately after World War I. Between the Wars the club competed in the local cup and league competitions. Pembroke ( ; cy, Penfro ) is both a town and a community in Pembrokeshire, Wales, with a population of 7,552. Mike Knill
Franklyn Michael David Knill (born 22 December 1941) is a Welsh former rugby union international. Knill was born in Monkton, Pembrokeshire, and attended Pembroke Grammar School. A tighthead prop, Knill was regarded as one of the best scrummagers in the country. He played much of his rugby with Cardiff and was capped once for the national team, as a substitute for Graham Price in a win over France in the 1976 Five Nations, which secured the grand slam for Wales. After leaving Cardiff, he served as captain of Penarth. Knill, now retired, was a Detective Sergeant with South Wales Police. Daffy “Sadie” Lewis
Daffy Duck is an animated cartoon character created for Leon Schlesinger Productions by animators Tex Avery and Bob Clampett. Luke John Hamilton (born 7 January 1992) is a Scottish international rugby union player who plays back row for Oyonnax. He has previously played for Cardiff Blues and Edinburgh in the Pro14, Agen in France's Top 14 and Leicester Tigers in Premiership Rugby. Dominic Day (born 22 August 1985) is a Welsh rugby union player. Early life Born in Haverfordwest, Day grew up in Lamphey, two miles east of Pembroke. He attended Pembroke School, where he participated in track and field, competing for Wales Schools as a discus thrower. Rugby playing career Day played rugby union at the age of eight, and at the age of 15 starting as a Number 8 before being moved to the second row. The PE teacher at Pembroke School, Neil Truman, recommended Day for the Pembrokeshire 'Elite' squad, and at the age of 18, he was invited to join the Scarlets' academy. Around the same time, he applied to the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) to study for a degree in sports science. Jonathan Thomas
Jonathan Thomas (born 27 December 1982, in Pembroke) is a Welsh rugby union coach and former player, he played mainly at flanker having also played at number eight and lock. He was previously head coach of Worcester Warriors. On January 17th 2023 he was appointed as an Assistant Coach of the Welsh rugby union team. Early life Thomas was an international cricketer playing for Wales u.15's Career Club Thomas started out playing for Pembroke RFC juniors, before playing for Swansea RFC when they were still a professional club, captaining them at the age of 19. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. The Welsh Rugby Union Division Three West A is a rugby union league in Wales. The founding of the Division in 2014 was a result of the decision by the Welsh Rugby Union to localise club rugby, after they concluded that players were not willing to travel long distances to play their matches. Competition format Competition There are 10 clubs in the WRU Division Three West A. During the course of a season (which lasts from September to May) each club plays every other team twice, once at their home ground and once at that of their opponents for a total of 18 games for each club, with a total of 180 games in each season. Teams receive four points for a win and two points for a draw, an additional bonus point is awarded to either team if they score four tries or more in a single match. No points are awarded for a loss though the losing team can gain a bonus point for finishing the match within seven points of the winning team. Pembroke Dock Harlequins Rugby Football Club is a Welsh rugby union team based in Pembroke Dock. The club is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and is a feeder club for the Llanelli Scarlets. They are known locally as simply the 'Quins'. The team was founded in 1880, a year before the creation of the WRU and the formation of the Wales national team. The club joined the Welsh Rugby Union in 1896, making the club one of the earliest teams from the region to gain membership. The clubs records from 1923 to 1999 are presently held by the historical society, Archive Wales. Homeground Pembroke Dock play all their home games at the Bierspool Ground located on London Road where they have been located since 1956.
