Pemba (panda)
Pemba was the name that was given to a rare 8-year-old Asian male red panda who resided at the Turtle Back Zoo located in West Orange, New Jersey from 2007 to 2008. He was easily recognized during his stay at the zoo by all his fans due to his white face, black legs and red body. Life at the zoo Pemba resided in the Turtle Back Zoo during 2007. Patrons to the zoo were able to see Pemba through his plexiglass enclosure, located in the zoo's Asian animal exhibit. Turtle Back Zoo
Turtle Back Zoo is a zoo in West Orange, New Jersey. Situated on in the South Mountain Reservation, it is part of the South Mountain Recreation Complex, which is managed as part of the Essex County Park System, the oldest county park system in the United States. Founded in 1963, the zoo was originally a showcase for animals indigenous to the New York metropolitan area, but currently features species from every continent except Antarctica. As of 2018, it houses approximately 1400 animals, including several hundred birds in a free-flight aviary. Located adjacent to the Richard J. Ling Ling (giant Panda)
was a male Chinese-born giant panda who resided at the Ueno Zoo, the largest zoo in Tokyo, Japan. At the time of his death at the age of 22, Ling Ling was the only giant panda at the Ueno Zoo and the oldest panda in Japan. He served as an important symbol of the Ueno Zoo and of friendship between Japan and China. Ling Ling, who was given to Japan in 1992, was the only giant panda in the country who was directly owned by Japan.
