''Pelli Choopulu'' () is a 2016 Indian Telugu-language romantic comedy film written and directed by Tharun Bhascker and produced by Raj Kandukuri and Yash Rangineni. It features Vijay Deverakonda and Ritu Varma in the lead roles. Partly based on a real-life incident of "Spitfire BBQ" food truck, the film revolves around a boy and a girl who meet during match-making and how their aspirations bring them together forms the rest of the story. The film was released worldwide on 29 July 2016 to positive reviews from critics and became a commercial success. The film provided breakthrough for the film's cast and crew. It is considered one of the "25 Greatest Telugu Films Of The Decade" by ''Film Companion''. ''Oh Manapenne!'' ( ) is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy film directed by Kaarthikk Sundar in his directorial debut and written by Deepak Sundarrajan. A remake of the Telugu film ''Pelli Choopulu'' (2016), it stars Harish Kalyan and Priya Bhavani Shankar as a boy and girl who meet during a matchmaking event. How their aspirations bring them together forms the rest of the story. The rights to remake ''Pelli Choopulu'' in Tamil were initially acquired by Gautham Vasudev Menon in 2016, and the film titled ''Pon Ondru Kandein'' was to be directed by Senthil Veerasamy, with Vishnu Vishal and Tamannaah Bhatia starring. The project faced delays and was ultimately shelved due to budgetary constraints; by November 2019, it had undergone a complete change in cast and crew. Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam (born 5 November 1988) is an Indian film director, writer, actor, and television presenter who works in Telugu cinema. He directed the critically acclaimed romantic comedy film ''Pelli Choopulu'' (2016), which won him the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu and Best Screenplay – Dialogues. He later directed ''Ee Nagaraniki Emaindhi'' (2018), and made his debut in a lead role with ''Meeku Maathrame Cheptha'' (2019). Ritu Varma (born 10 March 1990) is an Indian actress who works in Telugu and Tamil films. After appearing in short films and supporting roles, Varma played the lead in the Telugu film ''Pelli Choopulu'' (2016) for which she received Nandi Award for Best Actress and Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress – South. Filmfare Awards South is the South Indian segment of the annual Filmfare Awards, presented by the Filmfare magazine of The Times Group to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Indian film industry encompassing four languages, namely, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
