Pedro Mejia (politician)
Pedro Mejia (born June 23, 1970) is an American Democratic Party politician. A resident of Secaucus, he has represented the 32nd Legislative District in the New Jersey Assembly since 2018. Elective office Mejia was sworn into office on April 12, 2018, succeeding Vincent Prieto, who left office to take a position with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. Mejia became the first Dominican-American to serve in the New Jersey Legislature. Mejia served on an interim basis until winning the special election to serve the remainder of Prieto's term in a special election on November 6, 2018, Mejia ran unopposed in the special election. The New Jersey General Assembly is the lower house of the New Jersey Legislature. Since the election of 1967 (1968 Session), the Assembly has consisted of 80 members. Nicholas Sacco
Nicholas J. Sacco (born November 17, 1946) is an American Democratic Party politician, who has been serving in the New Jersey State Senate since 1994, where he represents the 32nd Legislative District. Sacco serves in the Senate as the chairman of the Transportation Committee, and is also a member of the Law and Public Safety and Veterans' Affairs Committee. He concurrently serves as mayor of North Bergen as he is allowed to hold two offices under a grandfather clause in a bill that prohibited dual office holding. Sacco announced on February 24, 2022 that he would not seek re-election for state senate. Personal life Sacco was born in Jersey City on November 17, 1946. The New Jersey Senate was established as the upper house of the New Jersey Legislature by the Constitution of 1844, replacing the Legislative Council. There are 40 legislative districts, representing districts with an average population of 232,225 (2020 figure). Each district has one senator and two members of the New Jersey General Assembly, the lower house of the legislature. Prior to the election in which they are chosen, senators must be a minimum of 30 years old and a resident of the state for four years to be eligible to serve in office. From 1844 until 1965 (when the ''Reynolds v. New Jersey's 32nd Legislative District is one of 40 districts that make up the map for the New Jersey Legislature. It encompasses the Bergen County boroughs of Edgewater and Fairview and the Hudson County municipalities of East Newark, Guttenberg, Harrison, Kearny, North Bergen, Secaucus, and West New York. Demographic information As of the 2020 United States census, the district had a population of 243,875, of whom 195,978 (80.4%) were of voting age.
