Pedro Da Silva (post Courier)
Pedro da Silva (Lisbon, circa 1647 - Canada, 1717) was the first post courier in New France, in what was to become part of Canada. He was Portuguese born and was known as ''Le Portugais'' ( French for '' The Portuguese''). Pedro da Silva is known to have arrived in New France prior to 1673, having worked there as a common courier. Later on he is known to have relocated to Sault-au-Matelot (Québec City's lower town) and involved himself in the shipping of goods in the colony (by boat and cart). There is proof that in July 1693, Silva was paid 20 sols to take a package of letters from Montréal to Québec City. In 1705, he was commissioned by the (co)-Intendant of New France, Jacques Raudot, as the "first courier" in New France. Stamp Canada Post issued a stamp (48¢) in June 2003 honouring Pedro da Silva. Pedro Silva is a former Portuguese footballer who played as a half-back. He is mostly known for his five-year spell at Benfica, where he won two major honours. Career Silva arrived at Benfica in 1929 and made his debut on 17 February, against Belenenses. He played 10 games in all competitions, scoring seven goals, helping the club win the Campeonato de Portugal. The following season, he scored once in five games in the same competition, with Benfica retaining the trophy. In 1931–32, he played alongside Guedes Gonçalves, but Benfica only reach the semi-finals of the Campeonato de Portugal. A year later, he played three games in the Campeonato de Lisboa, scoring once, as Benfica won a competition. In his last year at Benfica, he only played twice in the Campeonato de Lisboa, subsequently leaving the club with 24 goals in 50 appearances and winning three honours. Pedro de Silva Cienfuegos-Jovellanos (born 18 August 1945 Gijón, Spain) is a Spanish politician, lawyer and writer. He served as the second President of the Principality of Asturias from 17 June 1983, until 10 July 1991. Pedro de Silva was born 18 August 1945 Gijón, Asturias, Spain. His father, Pedro de Silva Sierra, a lawyer as well, served as the dean of the Escuela de Práctica Jurídica in Gijón from 1975 until 1990. He won the gold medal in the men's decathlon event at the 1991 Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba, and competed for his native country at the 1992 Summer Olympics. His personal best of 8266 points, set in Walnut, California in 1987, lasted twenty-five years as the Brazilian record. Pedro Nuno Gonçalves Conceição Silva (born January 21, 1977) is a Portuguese former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He is a two-time Olympian (2000 and 2004) and a former Portuguese record holder in the 50 m freestyle (22.86). Silva is a resident athlete for Sport Algés e Dafundo, and is trained by his long-time coach, director, and mentor Mário Madeira. Pedro Alves da Silva (born 25 April 1981) is a Brazilian retired footballer who played as a right-back. Club career Silva was born in Brasília, Federal District. During his early Brazilian career he represented SE Palmeiras, Figueirense FC and Esporte Clube Vitória (the latter two on loan). He was loaned to Sport Club Internacional in 2005, then had his first experience abroad with Portuguese club Académica de Coimbra.
