Captain Ralph Erksine Peasley "Captain Matt" (May 30, 1866 – December 13, 1948) is a sea captain from the Pacific Northwest who became famous due to a popular series of short stories by Peter Bernard Kyne called Cappy Ricks or the Subjugation of Matt Peasley'. Family life Peasley was born to Henry Clay Peasley a civil war veteran and Elizabeth Rose of Jonesport, Maine in 1866. He left home at age 14 to learn seamanship. Ed Peasley
Ed Peasley (born c. 1935) is a former American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Northern Arizona University from 1971 to 1974. High school Peasley attended Mendota Township High School in Mendota, Illinois. College career Peasley initially attended Compton Junior College, earning Little All-American honors at end and played in the Junior Rose Bowl in 1956. Peasley was a letterman for the Washington Huskies at end from 1957 to 1959. Coaching career Peasley began his coaching career at Washington, coaching as an assistant from 1961 to 1965. Peasley then coached at Stanford in a variety of roles from 1966 to 1970. Northern Arizona University gave Peasley a head coaching role, where he served from 1971 to 1974, compiling a 15–35 record. After four losing seasons he was fired along, with four assistants, in November 1974. Marv Peasley
Marvin Warren Peasley (July 16, 1889 – December 27, 1948) was an American baseball left-handed pitcher. Peasley was born in 1889 in Jonesport, Maine. He developed a reputation as a pitcher while playing for Riker Institute in Houlton, Maine. Peasley later pitched with "great success" for the Woodstock, New Brunswick, team during the summer of 1910. Peasley played Major League Baseball for the Detroit Tigersin September 1910, appearing in two games and compiling a 0-1 record with an earned run average of 8.10 in 10 innings pitched. There was some concern in 1911, that his career would end due to the increase of muscle mass to his arms from working with an axe during the previous winter, though would never again pitch in the majors. Peasley later played for the Winnipeg Maroons in the Central International League in 1912. Aaron Merrill Peasley ''(born Peaslee)'' (July 2, 1775 in Newton, New Hampshire – April 6, 1837 in Dayton, Ohio), was one of early America's foremost button makers. Life Peasley was born one of four sons born to William Peasley and Hannah Merrill. His father died in 1794 and young Aaron went to Boston to learn the tool and die trade. By the War of 1812 he was one of America's most well-known button makers, notably for his military uniform buttons. He lived and worked on Middle Street in Boston. His peak production years were in the early 1820s. In 1809, he married Lois Woodward in Charlestown, Massachusetts. In 1818 he was awarded a patent for a reed attachment to organs. He also invented some valuable improvements in calico printing. About 1826 or 1827 he and his family resettled in Dayton, Ohio, where he was known as a skillful engraver and die-sinker. Sutton is an area of St Helens, Merseyside, and Ward of the metropolitan borough of the same name. The population of the ward taken at the 2011 census was 12,003. Historically within Lancashire, it is one of the four townships along with Eccleston, Parr and Windle that formed the municipal borough of St Helens in 1868. History The old Township of Sutton included: Sutton Village, Ditch Hillock, Peasley Cross, Marshalls Cross, Clockface, Sutton Manor and Sherdley and totalled 3,752 acres. The exact derivation of Sutton is uncertain. It is thought the township took its name from 'Sudtun', old English for southern enclosure or south town and was likely to have been the southern portion of a Saxon thegn's estate.
