LGM-118 Peacekeeper
The LGM-118 Peacekeeper, originally known as the MX for "Missile, Experimental", was a MIRV-capable intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) produced and deployed by the United States from 1985 to 2005. The missile could carry up to twelve Mark 21 reentry vehicles (although treaties limited its actual payload to 10), each armed with a 300-kiloton W87 warhead. Initial plans called for building and deploying 100 MX ICBMs, but budgetary concerns eliminated the final procurement; only 50 entered service. Disarmament treaties signed after the Peacekeeper's development led to its withdrawal from service in 2005. Studies on the underlying concept started in the 1960s. The idea was to allow the U.S. to absorb a sneak attack by the USSR with enough warheads surviving to attack the remaining Soviet missile silos. To do so, the missiles had to be highly accurate, be based in such a way that enough would survive a nuclear attack, carry a large number of warheads so the survivors would stil ...

Peacekeeping
Peacekeeping comprises activities intended to create conditions that favour lasting peace. Research generally finds that peacekeeping reduces civilian and battlefield deaths, as well as reduces the risk of renewed warfare. Within the United Nations (UN) group of nation-state governments and organisations, there is a general understanding that at the international level, peacekeepers monitor and observe peace processes in post-conflict areas, and may assist ex-combatants in implementing peace agreement commitments that they have undertaken. Such assistance may come in many forms, including confidence-building measures, power-sharing arrangements, electoral support, strengthening the rule of law, and economic and social development. Accordingly, the UN peacekeepers (often referred to as Blue Berets or Blue Helmets because of their light blue berets or helmets) can include soldiers, police officers, and civilian personnel. The United Nations is not the only organisation to implem ...

Peacekeepers Way
Highway 125 is a 28 km long controlled-access highway located in Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Regional Municipality. The provincial government named it Peacekeepers Way on August 18, 2008. Part of the provincial 100-series arterial highway network, Highway 125 encircles the west side of Sydney Harbour, from an interchange with Highway 105 (the Trans-Canada Highway) at Sydney Mines to Trunk 4 (Grand Lake Road) immediately east of Sydney. Route description The northern third of the highway was upgraded during the late 1990s and early 2000s from a two-lane freeway to a twinned 4-lane freeway. Particularly problematic was the fact that the highway passes in proximity to Pottle Lake, the water supply reservoir for North Sydney, which required installation of pollution control monitoring and containment systems. In 2002 a connector road was built from the Grand Lake Road interchange which gives access to the port of Sydney at the former Sydney Steel Corporation property which is ...

Peacekeeper (song)
"Peacekeeper" is a song by Fleetwood Mac, written by guitarist and vocalist Lindsey Buckingham, from the 2003 album '' Say You Will''. It was the first and most commercially successful single released from the album. This was also the band's 25th, and most recent song to debut in the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100. This was also Buckingham's first US hit since " Family Man", which peaked at #90 in 1988. Background "Peacekeeper" was written in 2000 three years before the release of ''Say You Will'' in a house Buckingham was renting with his wife. Warner Bros selected the song as ''Say You Will's'' first single, describing the song as "walking a line between something quite modern and something quite familiar". "Peacekeeper" entered the US charts at #93 on 29 March. Seven weeks later, the song reached its peak position of #80. By the time "Peacekeeper" exited the charts, it had tallied eleven consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. In New Zealand, the single proved to be more succ ...

Peacekeeper (benchmark)
A browser speed test is a computer benchmark that scores the performance of a web browser, by measuring the browser's efficiency in completing a predefined list of tasks. In general the testing software is available online, located on a website, where different algorithms are loaded and performed in the browser client. Typical test tasks are rendering and animation, DOM transformations, string operations, mathematical calculations, sorting algorithms, graphic performance tests and memory instructions. Browser speed tests have been used during browser wars to prove superiority of specific web browsers. The popular Acid3 test is no particular speed test but checks browser conformity to web standards (though it checks whether a general performance goal is met). Peacekeeper Revolver
The Peacekeeper Revolver is the light gun released for the Philips CD-i multimedia system. It was released in 1994 and was bundled with ''Mad Dog McCree'', retailing for $60 (USD). The gun required manual calibration, accomplished via menu options in all supported games. It used an infrared device positioned next to the screen in order for it to register movement, making the Peacekeeper unusual compared to most other light guns of the era, which were reliant on the scanout of CRTs to function. Beginning in 2011, there was a patent dispute between Philips and Nintendo over the use of the technology (a remote and a “sensor” bar) for the Wii (and later the Wii U), which was settled out of court in 2014. Games * ''Atlantis: The Last Resort'' * '' Burn:Cycle'' * '' Chaos Control'' * '' Crime Patrol'' * '' Crime Patrol 2: Drug Wars'' * ''The Last Bounty Hunter'' * ''The Lost Ride'' * ''Mad Dog McCree'' * '' Mad Dog II: The Lost Gold'' * ''Thunder in Paradise'' * ''Who Shot Johnny ...
