Payne, Georgia
Payne, more commonly known as Payne City, was a city in Bibb County, Georgia, United States. Payne was an enclave completely surrounded by the city of Macon, and was the only other incorporated area in the county. The population was 218 at the 2010 census. The community was named after William Sims Payne, proprietor of a local mill. Though the mill is closed today, its former site houses several small businesses. Payne was located near Macon's Vineville neighborhood and business district, and the city was closely associated with Freedom Park, an adjacent county recreation area. Payne was part of the Macon Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was originally expected to be dissolved when Macon and Bibb County completed their consolidation on January 1, 2014. However, the dissolution was put on hold by the state legislature in early 2013, due to the 9–7 vote against consolidation within Payne itself. Payne County is located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. As of the 2010 census, the population was 77,350. Its county seat is Stillwater. Kaslo And Slocan Railway
The Kaslo and Slocan Railway (K&S) is a historic railway that operated in the West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. The K&S connected Kaslo and Sandon. Initially a narrow-gauge railway, the line was later rebuilt to standard gauge. Narrow gauge Proposal The 1891 discovery of silver in the Slocan Range created a mining boom. A railway to transport ore was crucial for commercial mining. In 1892, the province issued the charter to promoter John Hendry for a standard gauge line, amended to narrow gauge in 1894. Planned was a western terminal at Cody, with a spur to Sandon. The May 1893 stock market collapse and drop in the silver price depressed the economy, which delayed construction and prompted the narrow gauge decision. This choice halved construction costs. The Arnaud River (formerly known as the Payne River) is a river in Nunavik, Quebec, Canada, flowing from the low plateaux of the Ungava Peninsula through a series of glacial lakes to Ungava Bay. Its mean discharge is approximately 15 km³ per year, but the river flows only in the summer as it is frozen to several metres for the rest of the year. The total length of the river is about 377 kilometres, but there are several main channels in the upper reaches of the river, most of them unnamed and hardly sighted even by the native Inuit. The Inuit village of Kangirsuk lies near the mouth of the Arnaud River on the north shore of Payne Bay, inland from the western coast of Ungava Bay. It was formerly known as Dodge Arena from 2003 until February 2010, State Farm Arena from 2010 to September 2018, and then State Farm Hidalgo Arena for one year.
