Paweł Huelle
Paweł Marek Huelle (10 September 1957 – 27 November 2023) was a Polish prose writer. Life and career Huelle studied Polish philology at Gdańsk University and, in 1980, participated in the efforts to establish an independent student organization. He later became a journalist and worked for the press service of Solidarność (Solidarity). After the declaration of martial law in 1981, he cooperated with the samizdat movement. He also taught literature, philosophy and history. He was the director of TVP3 Gdańsk from 1994 to 1999 and served as the literary manager for the . His literary debut came in 1987 with a novel ' (translated as ''Who was David Weiser?''), which was made into a film (') by Wojciech Marczewski in 2000. He was also a member of the Polish PEN Club. In 2001, he won the Paszport Polityki Award for his book ''Mercedes-Benz. Z listów do Hrabala'', and in 2008 was nominated for the Nike Award for his novel ''Ostatnia wieczerza'' ("The Last Supper"). Bronisław Komorowski
Bronisław Maria Komorowski (; born 4 June 1952) is a Polish politician and historian who served as President of Poland from 2010 to 2015. Komorowski served as Minister of Defence from 2000 to 2001. As Marshal of the Sejm, Komorowski exercised the powers and duties of head of state following the death of President Lech Kaczyński in a plane crash on 10 April 2010. Komorowski was then the governing Civic Platform party's candidate in the resulting presidential election, which he won in the second round of voting on 4 July 2010. He was sworn in as President on 6 August 2010. Komorowski thus became the second person to serve on two occasions as Polish head of state since 1918, after Maciej Rataj. Nike Award
The Nike Literary Award ( pl, Nagroda Literacka „Nike") is a literary prize awarded each year for the best book of a single living author writing in Polish and published the previous year. It is widely considered the most important award for Polish literature. Established in 1997 and funded by ''Gazeta Wyborcza'', Poland's second largest daily paper, and the consulting company NICOM, it is conferred annually in October. It is open for nominees from all literary genres, including non-fiction essays and autobiographies. Each year, a nine-member jury selects the laureate in a three-stage process. Twenty official nominees are accepted in May, out of which seven finalists are declared in September. The final decision does not take place until the day of the award ceremony in October. Wojciech Szczęsny Marczewski (born 28 February 1944) is a Polish film director and screenwriter. He directed twelve films between 1968 and 2001.
