Greater Sudbury
Sudbury, officially the City of Greater Sudbury is the largest city in Northern Ontario by population, with a population of 166,004 at the 2021 Canadian Census. By land area, it is the largest in Ontario and the List of the largest cities and towns in Canada by area, fifth largest in Canada. Claude Gravelle
Claude Gravelle (born October 26, 1949) is a former Canadian politician, first elected to represent the electoral district of Nickel Belt in the 2008 Canadian federal election. He is a member of the New Democratic Party and was defeated in the 2015 Canadian federal election Gravelle is a retired machinist and union organizer at Inco's mining operations in Sudbury, where he was a member of the United Steelworkers union. Giuseppe "Joe" Cimino (born ) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a New Democratic member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from June to November 2014. David Courtemanche (born 7 April 1964) is a politician in Ontario, Canada. He is the former mayor of Greater Sudbury, having served one term from 2003 to 2006. Background Courtemanche was raised in West End, Sudbury Ontario. A former student of St. Charles College, he played hockey for the Sudbury Wolves and the Kingston Canadians. Though given a tryout with the New York Rangers he chose not to pursue hockey as a career. He completed a degree in Political Studies at the University of Guelph. Regional Municipality Of Sudbury, Ontario
The Regional Municipality of Sudbury was a Regional Municipality that existed in Ontario, Canada, from 1973 to 2000, and was primarily centred on the city of Sudbury. It served as an upper-tier level of municipal government, aggregating municipal services on a region-wide basis like the Counties and Regional Municipalities of Southern Ontario, and was the only upper-tier municipal government ever created in Northern Ontario. Amalgamation (politics)
A merger, consolidation or amalgamation, in a political or administrative sense, is the combination of two or more political or administrative entities, such as municipalities (in other words cities, towns, etc.), counties, districts, etc., into a single entity. This term is used when the process occurs within a sovereign entity. Unbalanced growth or outward expansion of one neighbor may necessitate an administrative decision to merge (see urban sprawl). In some cases, common perception of continuity may be a factor in prompting such a process (see conurbation). Some cities (see below) that have gone through amalgamation or a similar process had several administrative sub-divisions or jurisdictions, each with a separate person in charge.
