Paul Mahern
Paul Mahern (born September 11, 1963) is an American rock and pop record producer, mixing and mastering engineer, singer, songwriter, professor, and yoga teacher. Mahern has worked with acts such as John Mellencamp, Lily & Madeleine, The Fray, Iggy Pop, Lisa Germano, Willie Nelson, Okkervil River, Over the Rhine, Afghan Whigs, Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, Magnolia Electric Co., and Neil Young. Early life Paul Cantwell Mahern was the youngest in a family of eight. He was born in Indianapolis and lived in Chicago for much of his childhood before returning to Indianapolis as a teenager. Career As musician In 1979, at age 17, Mahern first gained attention as singer for hardcore punk band The Zero Boys. The band was known nationwide for its intense live performances, and its debut album ''Vicious Circle'' remains a punk-rock staple, recently seeing a re-release on Secretly Canadian Records. The Judybats
The Judybats (sometimes stylized as merely Judybats or JudyBats) were an American alternative rock band from Knoxville, Tennessee, United States, active primarily in the late 1980s and early to mid 1990s. The band released three successful singles that charted on the ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart: "Native Son", "Saturday" and "Being Simple", the latter of which peaked at No. 7. Background The band was formed in 1988 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Frontman Jeff Heiskell and guitarist Ed Winters were neighbors and had been composing folk songs together. The duo later met bassist Tim Stutz at a local bar called Hawkeye's Corner. Thin Lizard Dawn were a 1990s American rock group from New York City who released two major label albums on RCA Records in the late 1990s. They are probably most widely known for their first CD release, ''Thin Lizard Dawn'', which was released in 1996, that featured the single "Sexual Dynamo", in addition to the song "Sucks" ridiculing Oasis. The band's label however, had difficulty marketing the band and dropped them after the release of their second album. History Thin Lizard Dawn was formed in the early 1990s when all four members were students at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, and they later relocated to Manhattan. Antenna (band)
Antenna was an American indie rock band active from 1991 to 1994. The group was put together in Bloomington, Indiana by John Strohm and Freda Love, who had previously played together in the group Blake Babies. After adding local musicians Jacob Smith and Vess Ruhtenberg to the lineup, they began recording some of the songs Strohm had written while a member of the Blake Babies. Their debut full-length followed on Mammoth Records not long afterwards. After the departure of Ruhtenberg and Love, Patrick Spurgeon joined the group and an EP, ''Sleep'', was released in 1992. The full-length '' Hideout'' followed in 1993, with Ed Ackerson filling in on second guitar for the departed Ruhtenberg. Toxic Reasons were an American punk rock band, formed in 1979. The band released nine full-length studio albums between 1982 and 1995. History Toxic Reasons formed in Dayton, Ohio, in 1979. The founding members were Bruce Stuckey (bass guitar and vocals), Joel Agne (guitar and vocals), Ed Pittman (lead vocals) and Mark Patterson (drums). In 1980, Agne left the band and was replaced by Greg Stout on bass, while Stuckey switched to lead guitar. In 1981, Patterson left the band and was replaced by James J. "J.J." Pearson on drums. Over The Rhine (band)
Over the Rhine is an American, Ohio-based folk music band, the core of which is the husband-and-wife team of pianist/guitarist/bassist Linford Detweiler and vocalist/guitarist Karin Bergquist. The band began as a quartet with guitarist Ric Hordinski and drummer Brian Kelley. Hordinski left the band in December 1996, and Kelley continued to play into 1997 before departing. The original foursome reunited in December 2008 at The Taft Theatre (in Cincinnati) to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the formation of the band, and again in the summer of 2010 at Ric's studio, "the Monastery", to play the album ''Good Dog Bad Dog'' live, in its entirety.
