Caragiale București. Ipate made his film debut in ''The Paper Will Be Blue'' and went on to appear in Romanian feature films ''California Dreamin' "California Dreamin'" is a song written by John Phillips and Michelle Phillips and first recorded by Barry McGuire. ''The Paper Will Be Blue'' ( ro, Hârtia va fi albastră) is a 2006 Romanian film written and directed by Radu Muntean. The story is set on the night between 22 and 23 December 1989, the time of the Romanian Revolution. It follows a Militia unit which one man abandons to take part in the revolution, and the other members have to search for him. The film uses subtle humour and was shot in a cinéma vérité style with handheld camera. The film premiered in competition at the 2006 Locarno International Film Festival. It received two Gopo Awards and was nominated for nine more. Plot The film begins with a scene of an armoured personnel carrier (APC) and a military checkpoint in the background. Two men come out of it, one in civilian clothing, the other in a Militia (''Miliţia'') uniform, and light up cigarettes. ''California Dreamin' (endless)'' ( ro, California Dreamin' (nesfârșit)) is a 2007 Romanian film by Cristian Nemescu. It won the Prix un certain regard at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. It also picked up the Iris Award for Best Film, the Audience Award and the Canvas Award at the Brussels European Film Festival 2007. Plot The film is the first part of a trilogy which describes the fight of the Romanian anticommunist resistance in the 50s. This first movie is centered on the figure of Ion Gavrilă Ogoranu, a member of the fascist and anti-Semitic Iron Guard, played by Constantin Diță. It tells the story of two Romanian academics who are persecuted by Securitate, the secret police, in 1984. The title is a Latin phrase with the meaning "which had to be proven". The film is in black and white. It had a budget corresponding to 700,000 euro, of which 1.59 million Romanian leu came from the National Center for Cinema. The film premiered at the Rome Film Festival where it won the Jury Special Prize. It won several other awards and was hailed as the best Romanian film of 2014 by several critics, but had fewer than 5000 admissions in its home country, which was seen as a disappointment.
