Paul Hodkinson
Paul Hodkinson (born 14 September 1965 in Kirkby, Liverpool, England) is a former professional boxer. Hodkinson fought at Featherweight and is the former British, European and World (WBC) Featherweight Title holder. Amateur career Paul Hodkinson first caught the eye as an amateur bantamweight in the 1984-85 season with a series of good displays for young England and later for the full international side; but John Davidson a hard hitting and mature Northerner proved a little too rugged for him and Hodkinson’s ABA title campaign came to an abrupt finish in the first round. The one round defeat prompted a rethink in the Kirkby club - whose ‘old boys’ included John Conteh and Joey Singleton - and Hodkinson decided it was time to stop fighting the scales and let his body find its true poundage. Featherweight is a weight class in the combat sports of boxing, kickboxing, mixed martial arts, and Greco-Roman wrestling. Gregorio Vargas
Gregorio Vargas Hernández, better known as ''Goyo Vargas'' (born 27 October 1970) is a Mexican retired professional boxer who held the WBC featherweight title in 1993. Professional career Vargas was born in Santa María Natívitas, a small community located in the municipality of Cuautepec, Hidalgo, into a family of boxing aficionados. He was trained by his father since childhood and two brothers, Adán and Efraín, also became professional pugilists. On 28 April 1993, Vargas won the WBC featherweight title from Paul Hodkinson by TKO in round 7. On 11 July 1998. He would lose the title in his first defense to New yorker Kevin Kelley. Cardiff (; cy, Caerdydd ) is the capital and largest city of Wales. Wales National Ice Rink
The Wales National Ice Rink (WNIR) was an ice rink in Cardiff, Wales. It was the former home of the Cardiff Devils ice hockey team. The WNIR was opened in September 1986, and was inaugurated by the Duchess of York on 27 April 1987. Meat Loaf performed on December 4th, 1993 on the Everything Louder tour to a crowd of 4,300. It was demolished in September 2006 to make way for expansion of the St David's, Cardiff Shopping Centre, with the site now occupied by John Lewis. Closure In April 2006, the final ice hockey game hosted at the location was a special "End Of An Era" game featuring former ''Devils'' players against the 2005/2006 Devils squad. The facility later closed to leisure skaters in June 2006. Steve Robinson (boxer)
Steve Robinson (born 13 December 1968, in Cardiff) is a Welsh retired professional boxer. He is best known for working in Debenhams as a storeman in Cardiff, then with just two days' notice, he accepted the fight against John Davison in 1993 for the vacant WBO Featherweight title and won the contest on a points decision. He was trained by the late boxing coach, Ronnie Rush. Professional career On 17 April 1993 the defending Featherweight Champion, Ruben Palacios from Colombia, was due to defend his title in Washington, England against John Davison from England. However, the champion failed a HIV test by the BBBC prior to the bout and was immediately stripped of his title by the WBO. Muhammad Ali (; born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr.; January 17, 1942 – June 3, 2016) was an American professional boxer and activist. ''Grandstand'' was a British television sport programme. Broadcast between 1958 and 2007, it was one of the BBC's longest running sports shows, alongside ''BBC Sports Personality of the Year''. Mandatory Challenger
In professional boxing and some other combat sports, a mandatory challenger is an opponent whom a champion must either fight or be forced to vacate their title as champion. A mandatory defence is the opposite of a voluntary defence, where the champion may fight an opponent who might offer greater revenue potential than a mandatory challenger. Mandatory challengers are designated by the champion's sanctioning body; in boxing, the major sanctioning bodies are the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO. The sanctioning bodies often order eliminators between top-ranked contenders to decide who will receive the mandatory challenger status. If the champion vacates the belt, the mandatory challenger is paired against another challenger for the vacant belt. Marcos Villasana
Marcos Villasana is a Mexican former professional boxer and former WBC featherweight champion. Villasana first challenged Azumah Nelson for the WBC featherweight title, losing a narrow split decision on February 25, 1986. A rematch 18 months later was also unsuccessful, as Nelson won a unanimous decision. Villasana fought to a draw for the WBA featherweight title against Antonio Esparragoza on June 23, 1988, with Villasana getting a point deducted for a low blow in the 5th round. Villasana's very next bout was a third shot at the WBC featherweight title against champion Jeff Fenech, which resulted in a unanimous decision defeat. Shortly thereafter, Fenech relinquished the title and moved to the super featherweight division. Villasana won the vacant WBC featherweight title June 2, 1990, defeating Paul Hodkinson.
