Paul Ferri
Paul J. Ferri (born December 21, 1937 in Rome, Italy) is the founder and general partner of Matrix Partners, a venture capital firm. Early life In 1944, Ferri and his family immigrated to the United States where they settled in Virginia. His father worked for the government as an aeronautics engineer. Ferri's family eventually moved to New York City. Ferri obtained a B.Sc. in electrical engineering from Cornell University, a M.Sc in electrical engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of New York and an M.B.A. from Columbia University. Career In 1977, Ferri and Warren Hellman co-founded Hellman Ferri Investment Associates. After five years, the partners split. F. Warren Hellman (July 25, 1934 – December 18, 2011) was an American investment banker and private equity investor, the co-founder of Hellman & Friedman, a multibillion-dollar private equity firm. Hellman also co-founded Hellman, Ferri Investment Associates, today known as Matrix Partners. He started and funded the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival. David E. Goel (born 1970) is an American hedge fund manager. Goel is the managing general partner of Matrix Capital Management, which he co-founded with pioneering investor Paul Ferri in 1999. Goel is also a protégé of hedge fund manager Julian Robertson. Biography Goel was born in Toronto, Ontario, though he is known primarily as a U.S. equity securities investor. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2013. A 1989 graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and a 1993 graduate of Harvard University, Goel studied international relations and majored in government. After graduating university, he went to work as a financial analyst at Morgan Stanley & Co. in its High Technology Investment Banking division.
