Paul Desruisseaux
Paul Desruisseaux (May 1, 1905 – February 2, 1982) was a Canadian lawyer, businessman, and politician. Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, he studied law at the Université de Montréal and was called to the Quebec bar in 1934. He was the owner of ''La Tribune'', a daily newspaper in Sherbrooke, CHLT radio station, CKTS radio station, and television station CHLT-TV. In 1966, he was summoned to the Senate of Canada on the advice of Lester Pearson. A Liberal, he represented the senatorial division of Wellington, Quebec. He retired on his 75th birthday in 1980. The Senate of Canada (french: region=CA, Sénat du Canada) is the upper house of the Parliament of Canada. Together with the Crown and the House of Commons, they comprise the bicameral legislature of Canada. The Senate is modelled after the British House of Lords with members appointed by the governor general on the advice of the prime minister. The explicit basis on which appointment is made and the chamber's size is set, at 105 members, is by province or territory assigned to 'divisions'. CHLT-DT, virtual and VHF digital channel 7, is a TVA owned-and-operated television station licensed to Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. The station is owned by the Groupe TVA subsidiary of Quebecor Media. CHLT-DT's studios are located on Rue King Ouest (near Route 112) in Sherbrooke, and its transmitter is located in Orford. This station can also be seen on Vidéotron channel 4 and in high definition on digital channel 604. History The station went on the air for the first time on August 12, 1956. CKTS was an English language Canadian radio station located in Sherbrooke, Quebec. It broadcast on 900 kHz with a power of 10,000 watts as a class B station, using a directional antenna which had a slightly directional pattern during the day and a much tighter pattern at night, to protect Class-A clear-channel station XEW-AM in Mexico City at night. The station was shut down in 2006 by its owner, Corus Entertainment. History CKTS went on the air on July 1, 1946. Quebec has 24 permanent Senate divisions that are fixed under section 22 of the Constitution Act, 1867, which provides that "In the Case of Quebec each of the Twenty-four Senators representing that Province shall be appointed for One of the Twenty-four Electoral Divisions of Lower Canada..." CKOY-FM is a French-language Canadian radio station located in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Owned and operated by Cogeco, it broadcasts on 107.7 MHz using a directional antenna with an average effective radiated power of 11,000 watts and a peak effective radiated power of 25,000 watts ( class C1). The station's transmitter is located at Mount Bellevue. The station identifies itself as "107,7 FM" and is one of the few full-time FM talk stations in North America to broadcast in stereo.
