Paul Buchanan
Paul Gerard Buchanan (born 16 April 1956), is a Scottish, Glasgow-based, songwriter and musician, known for critically acclaimed compositions both as a co-founder of the Blue Nile and for his solo material. Buchanan was the writer of the Blue Nile's album '' Hats'', which was identified by '' The Herald'' newspaper as Scotland's favourite album of all time, in 2018. Early life and education He was born as Paul Gerard Buchanan on 16 April 1956, in Edinburgh. He was the first born of four children to civil servant John "Jack" Buchanan and Jesse Maria Buchanan (née Murray). His father worked at the Department of Trade and Industry. After his birth, the family moved to the Glasgow suburb town of Bishopbriggs. The album topped the Scottish Albums Chart, while peaking at number 14 on the UK Albums Chart. Its promotional single "Mid Air" reached only No. 42 on the UK Independent Singles Chart and No. 11 on the UK Independent Singles Breakers Chart. Critical reception ''Mid Air'' was met with widespread acclaim from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream publications, the album received an average score of 82 based on nine reviews, indicating "universal acclaim". "Sleep" is a song by Scottish band Texas, released as the third and final single from their seventh studio album, '' Red Book'' (2005), on 9 January 2006. The song features Paul Buchanan from fellow Scottish musical group the Blue Nile. "Sleep" was released on 9 January 2006 in three different formats: two audio CD singles and a DVD single. The song peaked at number six on the UK Singles Chart, and as of 2021, it remains their last UK top-40 hit. "Take Your Mama" from CD2 is a cover version of the song by Scissor Sisters. A free, limited-edition slip-case was made available by mail to house all three formats. Music video The music video was directed by Peter Kay and featured him as well as Sian Gibson.
