Paul Acheampong Cofie Atuahene
Paul Acheampong Cofie Atuahene (born 11 September 1923) was a Ghanaian politician in the first republic. He was the member of parliament for the Tan-Banda constituency from 1965 to 1966. Early life and education Atuahene was born on 11 September 1923 at Wenchi. He trained as a teacher and qualified with a Teachers' Certificate 'A'. Career and politics Atuahene served as the first ''Asa Youth Association'' secretary for Wenchi from 1939 to 1950. He served as the organizer and later became the secretary of the United Gold Coast Convention in Wenchi between 1946 and 1949. In 1949' he switched allegiance to the Convention People's Party (CPP) and served as the first constituency chairman for the party in the Wenchi district. He served as a national and regional executive of the party from 1955 to 1960. Wenchi
Wenchi is a town and is the capital of Wenchi Municipal of the Bono Region in middle-belt of Ghana. Wenchi is located at 7.73333 atitude in decimal degrees -2.1 ongitude in decimal degreesat an average elevation/altitude of 304 meters. Wenchi is approximately 30 km north of Techiman and about 50 km east of the Ivory Coast border. Wenchi has a population of 39,187 people in 2013. The Convention People's Party (CPP) is a Socialism, socialist political party in Ghana based on the ideas of the first President of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah. The CPP was formed in June 1949 after Nkrumah broke away from the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC). Nkrumah was the then appointed Secretaty General of the UGCC when he was arrested by the leader of the UGCC and imprisoned for an alleged thought, plans and power against Kwame Nkrumah's leadership. Kwame Nkrumah then formed the Convention People's Party with support of some UGCC members and had a purpose for self governance. Upon Kwame Nkrumah's leadership with the CPP, he orgranized a non violent protest and strike for support of the purpose for self-governance which took him to imprisonment for a second time, but he was released after winning a massive vote by the CPP following the colonies election general election whilst he was in prison. United Gold Coast Convention
The United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) was a political party founded in 1947 whose aim was to bring about Ghanaian independence from their British colonial masters after the Second World War. The United Gold Coast Convention appointed its leaders to include Kwame Nkrumah, who was the Secretary General. However, upon an allegation for plans against Nkrumah's leadership, he was arrested and jailed.
