Patrick Joseph Walsh (born 9 April 1931) is an Irish prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. From 1991 until 2008 he was the 31st Bishop of Down & Connor. Early life and education Walsh was born in 1931 at Cobh, Irish Free State. When he was 11 years old, his RIC father moved the family to Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he attended St Marys CBGS Belfast and won university scholarships in both science and literature. He entered St. Malachy's College as a seminarian, attending Queen's University Belfast. During Philosophy studies at Queen's he was taught by the future archbishop of Armagh, Dr Cahal Daly. He then studied theology at the Pontifical Lateran University, Rome, completed a Licentiate in Sacred Theology and was ordained priest on 25 February 1956. Patrick Walsh (died 1578) was an Irish prelate who served as the Bishop of Waterford and Lismore from 1551 to 1578. A graduate of Brasenose College, Oxford, he was appointed the Dean of Waterford on 9 March 1547., ''The Province of Munster'', p. 138. Sir Patrick Walsh (fl. 1580 – c.1610) was an Irish ambassador and friar. Patrick Walsh was a knight and wealthy merchant in the city of Waterford, becoming Mayor of Waterford in 1578. He was an older half-brother of Thomas Walsh, Archbishop of Cashel 1626–54. Another brother, Richard Walsh, was a Jesuit. (1992, n. 28, p. 191). Patrick Walsh (22 July 1830 – 19 March 1888) was a notable American farmer who dedicated himself to public service, serving two terms as a Democratic member of the Wisconsin State Senate and a year as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Milwaukee County. Early life Hailing from Ireland, Walsh's journey began on Irish soil. He secured election to the Wisconsin State Senate for the years 1858 and 1859, representing the Sixth District, which encompassed the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 8th Wards of the City of Milwaukee, along with the Towns of Franklin, Greenfield, Lake, Oak Creek and Wauwatosa. USS ''Walsh'' (APD-111) was a United States Navy ''Crosley''-class high-speed transport in commission from 1945 to 1946. She was scrapped in 1968. Namesake Patrick Joseph Walsh was born on 19 January 1908 in New York City. He accepted a commission in the United States Naval Reserve as a lieutenant, junior grade, on 4 May 1942. He received instruction at the Naval Training School, Boston, Massachusetts, and later received more specialized training at the Armed Guard School at Little Creek, Virginia, from 16 June 1942 to 22 July 1942. Walsh was Naval Armed Guard detachment commander aboard the merchant ship SS ''Patrick J.
