Patrick Bokanowski
Patrick Bokanowski (born 23 June 1943 in Algiers, French Algeria) is a French filmmaker who makes experimental and animated films. Career The film '' The Angel'' (1982) is his most prominent work. It is accompanied by a soundtrack made by his wife, Michèle Bokanowski, and released on the 2003 CD album, ''L'Ange', by the label . Bokanowski develops work between the traditional cinematographic genres: short film, experimental film, and animation. His manner of treating filmic material is his research at the frontier of optical and visual arts, always in an "in-between" to create. He calls into question the idea that cinema's essence should be to reproduce reality, that is, our habits of thinking and feeling. His films contradict the "objectivity" of photography that is solidly essential to most of the global film productions. Jean-Michel Frodon (born 20 September 1953 in Paris) is a journalist, critic and historian of cinema. Biography Born Jean-Michel Billard, he writes with a pseudonym borrowed from Frodo of ''The Lord of the Rings''. He has a master's degree and a DEA in history. He worked as an educator from 1971 to 1981. Next, he was a photographer from 1981 to 1985. In 1983, he became a journalist and film critic for the weekly periodical ''Le Point'', of which his father, Pierre Billard, also a journalist and a film critic, was one of the founders and chief editors. He held this post until 1990. He took over the same functions at the daily newspaper ''Le Monde'' in 1990 and in 1995, he became responsible for the daily film column. In 2003 he became head editor of ''Cahiers du cinémas'' four years after its purchase by ''Le Monde''. After leaving in 2009, he writes the blog ''Projection publique'' on website ''slate.fr''. Canyon Cinema
Canyon Cinema is an American nonprofit organization for distributing independent, avant-garde, and artist-made films. After starting in the 1960s as an exhibition program, it grew to include a nationwide newsletter and a distribution cooperative. Its exhibition activities were split off to form the San Francisco Cinematheque. History Canyon Cinema informally began in 1960 as an exhibition outlet in Canyon, California. Filmmaker Bruce Baillie got a projector and army surplus screen to put on shows in his backyard. Chick Strand and Ernest Callenbach became involved, and they began holding screenings around the Bay Area. Early programming included popular cinema, particularly from Castle Films, and avant-garde cinema but over time came to focus exclusively on the latter.
