Patricias Hope
Patricias Hope was a famous racing greyhound from the 1970s. He is just one of four greyhounds along with Mick the Miller, Rapid Ranger and Westmead Hawk to win the English Greyhound Derby twice. 1972 Patricias Hope won the 1972 English Greyhound Derby when trained by Adam Jackson and owned by Brian Stanley and Gordon and Basil Marks. During the same year he secured the Triple Crown, consisting of the English Greyhound Derby, Scottish Greyhound Derby and Welsh Greyhound Derby. Along with Trev's Perfection and Mile Bush Pride, only one of three greyhounds to do so and was duly voted 1972 Greyhound of the Year. Johnny O'Connor (hurler)
John P. O'Connor (1928 – 31 October 2010), known as Johnny O'Connor, was an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Waterford senior team. Born in Abbeyside, County Waterford, O'Connor first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Dungarvan CBS. He arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Waterford minor team. He made his senior debut during the 1946–47 league. O'Connor subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one All-Ireland medal and two Munster medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial on a number of occasions O'Connor won one Railway Cup medal. At club level he won several championship medals playing with Abbeyside, Clonea, UCD, Castletownroche and Avondhu. Pigalle Wonder
Pigalle Wonder was a racing greyhound during the late 1950s and early 1960s. He was the United Kingdom Greyhound of the Year and won the sports top accolade by winning the 1959 English Greyhound Derby. 1956 He was whelped in March 1956 and bred by Tom Murphy in County Kilkenny, and was reared under the name Prairie Champion. 1957 His first race was on 10 October 1957, when he participated in the McCalmont Cup at Kilkenny under the name of Prairie Champion. He won his heat by ten lengths in 29.80 seconds and then won the final. After recording 29.10 seconds in a 525 yards trial at Harold's Cross Stadium he was bought by Al Burnett, who was known for owning the Pigalle Club in London. 1958 He was subsequently renamed Pigalle Wonder and was moved to Jim Syder Jr. as his trainer at Wembley. Hook Estate And Kennels
The Hook Estate and Kennels was a greyhound racing kennels facility located just off Coopers Lane Road in Northaw, Potters Bar, Hertfordshire. It was the leading United Kingdom greyhound racing kennels for over fifty years and became a famed facility within the industry as the base for the London stadiums of White City Stadium, Stamford Bridge, Harringay Stadium and much later Clapton Stadium and West Ham Stadium. Spillers
Spillers Ltd was a British company that owned flour milling operations, operated bakeries and also sold pet food and equine feeds. History The business originated in 1829 from the establishment of a flour mill in Bridgwater, Somerset, by Joel Spiller. The business rapidly expanded to other parts of England and Wales. In 1855 Spillers began to manufacture ships' biscuits. By 1854, Spiller opened a flour mill in Cardiff with his business partner Samuel Browne. The mill burned down in 1882 and was rebuilt in 1887 incorporating two other mills. In 1893 a mill was built in Cardiff that formed part of a complex of steam-powered roller mills with a capacity of 100,000 tons per year. ''World of Sport'' is a British television sport programme which ran on ITV (TV network), ITV between 2 January 1965 and 28 September 1985 in competition with the BBC's ''Grandstand (TV programme), Grandstand''. Like ''Grandstand'', the programme ran for several hours every Saturday afternoon. Early years Eamonn Andrews was the first host and the programme itself was "compiled for Independent Television" by ABC Weekend TV from its Teddington Studios, with the other ITV stations contributing footage of events in their regions. The 1973 Spillers Greyhound Derby took place in June, with the final being held on 23 June 1973 at White City Stadium. The winning greyhood was Patricias Hope and the winning owners Gordon Marks, B Marks and John O'Connor received £12,500. The competition was sponsored by the Spillers. Competition Report A new sponsor was secured for the Derby in the form of Spillers Foods, famous for the Winalot brand and they would offer record prize money. English Greyhound Derby
The English Greyhound Derby is the most prestigious race on the British Greyhound racing in the United Kingdom, greyhound racing calendar, with a history stretching back to 1927. It was first held at White City Stadium, but moved to Wimbledon Stadium in 1985, and then Towcester Greyhound Stadium in 2017, Nottingham in 2019 and back to Towcester in 2021.
