Parvoplaca Tiroliensis
''Parvoplaca tiroliensis'' is a species of crustose lichen in the family Teloschistaceae, and the type species of the genus ''Parvoplaca''. It is widely distributed, and has been recorded growing on a variety of , including moss, dead plant material, and bone. Taxonomy The lichen was formally described as a species new to science in 1903 by the Austrian-Hungarian lichenologist Alexander Zahlbruckner, who initially classified it in the genus ''Caloplaca''. Ulf Arup and colleagues transferred the taxon to the genus ''Parvoplaca'' in 2013, following a molecular phylogenetics-based restructuring of the family Teloschistaceae. Description ''Parvoplaca tirolensis'' is a muscicolous lichen, characterised by a thallus that tends to be obscured or blend into the moss it grows upon. The apothecia (fruiting bodies) of this species are dispersed and sessile, typically measuring about 0.2 mm in diameter, though they can reach up to 0.3 mm. In its early stages, the of the ...

Parvoplaca Nigroblastidiata
''Parvoplaca nigroblastidiata'' is a species of corticolous (bark-dwelling), crustose lichen in the family Teloschistaceae. Found in Europe and Alaska, it was formally described as a new species in 2015 by Ulf Arup, Jan Vondrák, and Mehmet Halıcı. The type specimen was collected in the Nyhem Parish, Jämtland (Sweden), where it was growing on the bark of '' Populus tremula''. In Turkey, it has been recorded at high altitudes on the bark of '' Juniperus excelsa'' and '' Abies cilicica'', while in a single record from Alaska it is growing on ''Populus''. In 2018 it was reported from the sacred groves of Epirus in Greece, and in 2020 from Norway. Description The main distinguishing characteristics of ''Parvoplaca nigroblastidiata'' include its thallus (i.e., immersed in the bark substrate), the black that resemble small spots (the species epithet refers to this feature), and zeorin- apothecia featuring an orange and a black thalline margin. '' Caloplaca turkuensis'' is ...

Teloschistaceae
The Teloschistaceae are a large family of mostly lichen-forming fungi belonging to the class Lecanoromycetes in the division Ascomycota. The family, estimated to contain over 1800 species, was extensively revised in 2013, including the creation or resurrection of 31 genera. It contains three subfamilies: Xanthorioideae, Caloplacoideae, and Teloschistoideae. A fourth subfamily, Brownlielloideae, proposed in 2015, has been shown to be part of the Teloschistoideae. Genera This is a list of the genera contained within the Teloschistaceae, based on a 2020 review and summary of ascomycete classification. Following the genus name is the taxonomic authority, year of publication, and the number of species: *'' Amundsenia'' – 2 spp. *'' Andina'' - 1 sp. *'' Apatoplaca'' – 1 sp. *'' Aridoplaca'' - 1 sp. *'' Athallia'' – 17 spp. *'' Austroplaca'' – 10 spp. *'' Blastenia'' – 11 spp. *'' Brownliella'' – 4 spp. *'' Bryoplaca'' – 3 spp. *'' Calogaya'' – 19 spp. *'' Calop ...

Circumscription (taxonomy)
In biological taxonomy, circumscription is the content of a taxon, that is, the delimitation of which subordinate taxa are parts of that taxon. If we determine that species X, Y, and Z belong in Genus A, and species T, U, V, and W belong in Genus B, those are our circumscriptions of those two genera. Another systematist might determine that T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z all belong in genus A. Agreement on circumscriptions is not governed by the Codes of Zoological or Botanical Nomenclature, and must be reached by scientific consensus. A goal of biological taxonomy is to achieve a stable circumscription for every taxon. This goal conflicts, at times, with the goal of achieving a natural classification that reflects the evolutionary history of divergence of groups of organisms. Balancing these two goals is a work in progress, and the circumscriptions of many taxa that had been regarded as stable for decades are in upheaval in the light of rapid developments in molecular phylogenetics ...
