Parvomay Neck
Parvomay Neck ( bg, Първомайски провлак, ‘Parvomayski Provlak’ \p&r-vo-'may-ski 'pro-vlak\) is the 5 km long and 1.55 to 3.5 km wide ice-covered neck between Discovery Bay to the northeast and Shopski Cove and Yankee Harbour to the southwest, linking the northwestern and southeastern parts of Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. Discovery Bay (Antarctica)
Discovery Bay is a bay long and wide, indenting the north side of Greenwich Island, in the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. It had been known to sealers in the area since about 1821. It was charted and named in 1935 by Discovery Investigations personnel on the ''Discovery II''. The Chilean Antarctic Expedition of 1947, under the command of Captain Federico Guesalaga Toro, decided to rename the name ''Bahía Chile'' as the site of Chile's first permanent Antarctic base, Base Soberanía, now Capitán Arturo Prat Base. Shopski Cove
Shopski Cove ( bg, Шопски залив, Shopski zaliv, ) is a 2.6 km wide cove indenting for 1.9 km the southwest coast of Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica, between Triangle Point and the westernmost extremity of the moraine spit of Provadiya Hook protecting Yankee Harbour. Shape enhanced as a result of Bravo Glacier’s retreat in the late 20th and early 21st century. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers operating from Yankee Harbour. Yankee Harbour
Yankee Harbour is a small inner harbour entered from Shopski Cove between Glacier Bluff and Spit Point, indenting the south-west side of Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. It is long in west-south-west to east-north-east direction, and wide, and is bounded by Provadiya Hook to the south-west, Parvomay Neck to the north and east, and Kladara Beach to the south. History Yankee Harbour was known to both American sealers and the British (who called it ''Hospital Cove'') as early as 1820, and this name is now established in international usage. Port Foster, the crater harbour of Deception Island, has at times also been referred to as Yankee Harbour. Greenwich Island (variant historical names ''Sartorius Island'', ''Berezina Island'') is an island long and from (average ) wide, lying between Robert Island and Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands. Surface area . The name Greenwich Island dates back to at least 1821 and is now established in international usage. The Chilean base Arturo Prat and the Ecuadorian base Pedro Vicente Maldonado are situated on the northeast and north coast of the island respectively. Chilean scientists have claimed that Amerinds visited the area, due to stone artifacts recovered from bottom-sampling operations off the island; however, the artefacts — two arrowheads — were later found to have been planted. South Shetland Islands
The South Shetland Islands are a group of Antarctic islands with a total area of . They lie about north of the Antarctic Peninsula, and between southwest of the nearest point of the South Orkney Islands. Parvomay
Parvomay ( bg, Първомай ) is a town, part of the municipality of the same name ( Parvomay Municipality) in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Plovdiv Province, close to the towns Sadovo and Chirpan. The word literally means First of May, i.e., May Day, in English and is sometimes transliterated as Parvomai or Purvomai. As with many places in Bulgaria, the town has other names, such as its old name (up until 1947) of Borisovgrad (after Bulgaria's last Tsar, Boris to celebrate his birthday on 30 January 1894), as well as Borisovgrad, Borissograd, Borissovgrade, or Borissowgrad.
