Paritosh Chakrabarti is a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician and the former Member of Parliament of Rangpur-2. Career Chakrabarti was elected to parliament from Rangpur-2 as a Jatiya Party candidate in 1996 by-election. The by-elections were called after Hussain Mohammad Ershad, who was elected from 5 constituencies, resigned and choose to represent Rangpur-3. He left Jatiya Party and joined Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He served as the Vice-President of Rangpur District unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party ( bn, বাংলাদেশ জাতীয়তাবাদী দল, Bangladesh Jātīyotābādī Dol; BNP) is a centre-right to right-wing nationalist, political party in Bangladesh and one of the major political parties of Bangladesh. It was founded on 1 September 1978 by former Bangladeshi President Ziaur Rahman after the Presidential election of 1978, with a view of uniting the people with a nationalist ideology. Since then, the BNP won the second, fifth, sixth and eighth national elections and two Presidential elections in 1978 and 1981. Lt. Gen. Hussain Muhammad Ershad ( bn, হুসেইন মুহাম্মদ এরশাদ; 1 February 1930 – 14 July 2019) was a Bangladeshi Army Chief politician who served as the President of Bangladesh from 1983 to 1990, a time many consider to have been a military dictatorship. He seized power as head of the army during a bloodless coup against President Abdus Sattar on 24 March 1982 (by imposing martial law and suspending the Constitution). He declared himself President in 1983, and subsequently won the controversial 1986 Bangladeshi presidential election. Despite claims to have legitimately won the 1986 election, many consider his regime as an era of military dictatorship. Rangpur-3 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh. Saad Ershad is the current MP of this constituency. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Rangpur Sadar Upazila and wards 9 through 33 of Rangpur City Corporation. History The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973. Ahead of the 2014 general election, the Election Commission reduced the boundaries of the constituency. Previously it had also included eight union parishads of Rangpur Sadar Upazila: Chandanpat, Darshana, Mominpur, Rjendrapur, Sadya Pushkarni, Satgara, Tamphat, and Tapodhan. Rangpur ( bn, রংপুর) is a district in Northern Bangladesh. It is a part of the Rangpur Division. Geography Under the Rangpur Division (one of eight divisions) composed of eight districts of northern Bangladesh, the District of Rangpur is bordered on the north by Nilphamari District, on the south by Gaibandha District, on the east by Kurigram, and on the west by Dinajpur district.
