''Parc Avenue'' is the first full-length album by Canadian indie rock band Plants and Animals, released February 26, 2008 on Secret City Records. The album was a nominee for the 2008 Polaris Music Prize The 2008 edition of the Canadian Polaris Music Prize was presented on September 30, 2008, at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto. Plants And Animals
Plants and Animals are a Canadian indie-rock band from Montreal (featuring two members originally from Nova Scotia) which comprises guitarist-vocalists Warren Spicer and Nic Basque and drummer-vocalist Matthew Woody Woodley. The trio began playing together as kids and emerged on the international scene in 2008. They are signed to Secret City Records. Career Plants and Animals' self-titled EP was released in 2003 via Ships at Night Records. In the fall of 2007, Plants and Animals released the four-song ''with/avec'' EP. Secret City Records is a Canadian independent record label based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The music label was founded in 2006 by Andrew Rose and Justin West, originally as sublabel of Justin Time Records. It became fully independent in late 2008. Artists who have released material on Secret City include Patrick Watson, Miracle Fortress, Plants and Animals, Diamond Rings, Human Highway, Basia Bulat, Thus Owls, Daniel Isaiah, and The Barr Brothers. 2008 Polaris Music Prize
The 2008 edition of the Canadian Polaris Music Prize was presented on September 30, 2008, at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto. The prize was won by Caribou for his album ''Andorra''. Unlike in prior years, the Polaris Prize committee did not release a compilation album of songs from the nominated albums. Instead, customers who purchased one of the nominated albums in a record store were given a free card entitling them to download one free song from each album at iTunes.
