Panukulan, officially the Municipality of Panukulan ( tgl, Bayan ng Panukulan), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Quezon, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 16,376 people. It is located in the northwestern part of the island of Polillo in the Polillo Islands. Geography The establishment of the municipality of Panukulan begun with the separation of barangays Panukulan, Calasumanga, Libo and Lipata from its former unit the municipality of Polillo, for incorporation into the new municipality of Panukulan by virtue of the passage of Republic Act No. 2452 on June 21, 1959. The Polillo Islands is a group of about 27 islands in the Philippine Sea lying about to the east of the Philippine island of Luzon. Polillo () is an island in the northeastern region of the Philippine archipelago. It is the largest island and the namesake of the Polillo Islands. It is separated from Luzon Island by the Polillo Strait and forms the northern side of Lamon Bay. The island itself is subdivided across three municipalities. The municipality of Polillo covers the southern portion of the island, while the northeastern part is administered by the municipality of Burdeos. The northwest is within the jurisdiction of the municipality of Panukulan. The island is also home to the Butaan lizard, a vulnerable relative of the Komodo dragon.
