Panku Ponk
is a Japanese children's comedy manga series written and illustrated by Haruko Tachiiri. It began serialization in the December 1976 issue of the Shogakukan magazine ; as the characters aged, it moved to , , and the shōjo manga magazine ''Hop (magazine), Hop'', before concluding in 1991. Serial numbers were very short, usually no more than four pages, and were collected in a total of 12 tankōbon, bound volumes under Shogakukan's Ladybird Comics imprint. It was followed by two sequel series, , collected in two volumes, and . ''Panku Ponk'' received the 1984 Shogakukan Manga Award for the children's category. Mambo (dance)
Mambo is a Latin dance of Cuba which was developed in the 1940s when the music genre of the same name became popular throughout Latin America. The original ballroom dance which emerged in Cuba and Mexico was related to the danzón, albeit faster and less rigid. In the United States, it replaced rhumba as the most fashionable Latin dance. Later on, with the advent of salsa and its more sophisticated dance, a new type of mambo dance including breaking steps was popularized in New York. The is one of Japan's major manga awards, and is sponsored by Shogakukan, Shogakukan Publishing. It has been awarded annually for serialized manga and features candidates from a number of publishers. It is the oldest manga award in Japan, being given since 1955.
