Panamanian Literature
Panamanian literature comprises the whole of literary works written in Panama. The first literature relating to Panama can be dated to 1535, with a modern literary movement appearing from the mid-19th century onwards Early literature Panamanian historian and essayist Rodrigo Miró (1912-1996) cites Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo y Valdés as being the author of the first Panamanian literary work, the story of a character named ''Andrea de la Roca'', which was published as part of the "Historia General y Natural de Las Indias" (1535). The first literature from Panamanian born authors comes from the 17th century with the title of "''Llanto de Panamá a la muerte de don Enrique Enríquez''" (Crying from Panama at the Death of Don Enrique Enríquez). Panama
Panama ( , ; es, link=no, Panamá ), officially the Republic of Panama ( es, República de Panamá), is a transcontinental country spanning the southern part of North America and the northern part of South America. It is bordered by Costa Rica to the west, Colombia to the southeast, the Caribbean Sea to the north, and the Pacific Ocean to the south. María Olimpia De Obaldía
María Olimpia de Obaldía (9 September 1891 – 14 August 1985), was a Panamanian poet. Biography The daughter of Manuel del Rosario Miranda and Felipa Rovira, she was born in Dolega, Chiriquí. She studied at the Escuela Normal de Institutoras in Panama City, qualified in 1913, and worked as a primary school teacher in her native town until her marriage to Don José de Obaldía in 1918. She published her first book, Orquídeas, in 1926. In 1930, she was granted the title Maria Olimpia de Panama by the Instituto Nacional de Panamá. In 1951, she became the first female member of the Academia Panameña de la Lengua. In 1976, she was made a Commander of the Panamanian ''Order of Vasco Núñez de Balboa'' and in 1983 was decorated with the '' Orden de Belisario Porras''. Ricardo Miró
Ricardo Miró Denis (November 5, 1883 in Panama City, Panama – March 2, 1940), was a Panamanian writer and is considered to be the most noteworthy poet of this country. He traveled to Bogotá at the age of fifteen to study painting, but was forced to return to Panama in 1899 due to the Thousand Days' War. The magazine ''Isthmus Herald'', where he worked for 10 years, published his first verses. Miró traveled to Spain between 1908 and 1911 where he had the position of consul in Barcelona. In 1909 his poem "Patria" (Native Land) was published. His work was characterized as being nostalgic and filled with the author's thoughts about living away from his own native land. In 1917 he returned to Panama to serve as director of the National Archives until 1927, and as a secretary for the Academia Panameña de la Lengua until 1940. He died on March 2, 1940, in Panama City. Nuevos Ritos
Nuevos is Orquesta El Arranque's sixth album. Its sixteen tracks are a tribute to the new generation of tango composers. It forms a triptych with the two former albums, ''Clásicos'', a collection of tango classics, and ''Maestros'', which featured the compositions of the intermediate generation of tango composers. There are two versions of the album: a plain one with an acrylic case and a lyrics booklet and a deluxe version with a board game that is a cross between Trivial Pursuit and snakes and ladders.
