Bangued, officially the Municipality of Bangued ( ilo, Ili ti Bangued; tgl, Bayan ng Bangued), is a 1st class municipality and capital of the province of Abra, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 50,382 people. Etymology The name Bangued evolved from the Ilocano word "Bangen," which means roadblock, anything that discourages. The Spanish spelled it as "bangued." The "D" was substituted for the nasal sound of "H." When the Americans came the pronunciation was changed to "bangued." To discourage raids in the settlement at Bangued, which is usually situated from Pantoc (now called Penarrubia), "bangen" were placed at the roads leading to the town. Iligan, officially the City of Iligan ( ceb, Dakbayan sa Iligan; fil, Lungsod ng Iligan; Maranao: ''Inged a Iligan''), is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the region of Northern Mindanao, Philippines. Mueang Phetchabun ( th, เมืองเพชรบูรณ์, ) is the capital district ('' amphoe mueang'') of Phetchabun province, northern Thailand. History ''Mueang'' Phetchabun was an ancient frontier city, established in Sukhothai era. Prince Damrong Rajanubhab founded the forts on both banks of the Pa Sak River. Inside the old city is a ''Wat'' Mahathat, the symbol of an important city. During the ''Thesaphiban'' administrative reform, Phetchabun Province was merged with Lom Sak, and became part of the Monthon Phetchabun in 1899. Fernando Castro Palao (b. at León, Spain, León in 1581; d. at Medina, 1 December 1633) was a Spanish Jesuit theologian. Life At the age of fifteen, in 1596, he entered the Society of Jesus. He taught philosophy at Valladolid, moral theology at Santiago de Compostela, Compostela, and scholastic theology at Salamanca. Later he became rector of the College of Medina, and consultor and qualificator of the Holy Inquisition. He filled these three offices until his death. Jimmy Palao
James Palao (February 19, 1879 – January 8, 1925) was an American jazz musician. Early life Palao was born in Algiers, New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 19, 1879. His parents were Felix Palao and Clotile Rebecca Spriggs. Jimmy had violin lessons as a child. Later life and career Palao's profession was recorded as "musician" in the 1900 census, but little is known of his career prior to 1907, although he did play in local bands such as the Pacific Brass Band. Palao married Armontine Carter in 1905. The couple had five children, four of whom survived infancy. In 1911, his composition " O You Sweet Rag" was published by H. Kirkus Dugdale. Armontine left him in 1912 and moved to Los Angeles; Palao rejoined her there the following year. In California, he started working in a string trio with Norwood Williams and Dink Johnson. George Palao
George L. Palao BEM (4 October 1940, Kensington, United Kingdom - 2009, Gibraltar) was a Gibraltarian historian and potholer and illustrator. He was particularly known for his excavations and finds in many caves of Gibraltar. Early years Born in Kensington, London on 4 October 1940, George Palao became part of an entire generation of Gibraltarians who were born away from the Rock after their parents were evacuated from Gibraltar along with most of the civilian population during World War II. When the war ended he and his family were repatriated to Gibraltar where he attended the Gibraltar Technical School and the Gibraltar Dockyard School. In 1958 Palao took up employment as a draghtsman for the Government of Gibraltar at their Public Works Department Drawing Office. Alejandro "Alec" Palao (born 1962) is a British musician, music historian, writer, and reissue producer. In addition to his musical output with groups like the Sting-Rays, the Sneetches, and Mushroom, his works include hundreds of production credits and liner notes on important compilations of vintage rock and soul from Ace Records, Rhino Records, and others, plus a wide array of music-related print and film credits. Palao is unusual in that he normally supervises each aspect of the projects he compiles, including audio transfers and restoration as well as research and liner notes.
