Palamari
Palamari () is a mountain village and a community in the municipal unit Trikolonoi, in Arcadia, Greece. It is located on a mountain slope north of the valley of the river Alfeios, at about 700 m elevation. It is 2 km west of Pavlia, 7 km east of Karytaina, 8 km southeast of Stemnitsa and 10 km north of Megalopoli. The community includes the village Psari. The site of the ancient town of Thyraeum is located nearby. Trikolonoi
Trikolonoi () is a former municipality in Arcadia, Peloponnese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Gortynia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 102.031 km2. The municipal unit includes the villages of Stemnitsa (the former municipal seat), Syrna, Pavlia, Palamari, Psari, Ano Kalyvia and Elliniko. Trikolonoi is located southeast of Dimitsana, west of Tripoli and north of Megalopoli. The place takes its name from the ancient town of Tricoloni. Pavlia () is a mountain village in the municipal unit of Trikolonoi, Arcadia, Greece. It is located at 700 m elevation on a mountain slope, overlooking the plain of Megalopoli. It is 2 km east of Palamari, 2 km west of Palaiomoiri, 4.5 km west of Lykochia, 9 km southeast of Stemnitsa and 14 km north of Megalopoli. The location of the ancient city Thyraion has been identified with that of the present village Pavlia. Psari, Trikolonoi, Arcadia
Psari () is a village in the Municipality of Gortynia in Arcadia. From 1997 to 2010 it was part of the Municipality of Trikolonoi. It is located at an altitude of approximately 750 meters, at a distance of 17 kilometers from Megalopoli and 11 kilometers from Stemnitsa. It is a traditional settlement with stone-built houses on the outskirts of Mount Mainalo in the heart of mountainous Arcadia. The inhabitants of the village are engaged in agriculture and livestock farming. The village celebrates every year on the feast of the Zoodochos Pege, while cultural events are held during August. The climate is mountainous with cold winters and cool summers. History According to archaeological findings, the village was inhabited from late antiquity at a point located northeast of the current settlement. Its original name was Paroreia. Alfeios
The Alpheios (, , Latin Alpheus), sometimes spelled Alfeiós, is the main stream of the Alpheios Valley drainage system, a dendritic type, originating on the north slopes of Mount Taygetus, located in the center of the Peloponnesus of Greece, and flowing to the northwest to the vicinity of Olympia, where it turns to the west and, after being impounded by the Flokas Dam, a hydroelectric facility, empties into the Gulf of Kyparissia of the Ionian Sea south of Pyrgos. The entrance into the gulf through agricultural land and across an unpopulated, sandy beach partially blocked by a spit is hydrologically unspectacular, with the water too shallow to be navigable by any but the smallest craft. Karytaina
Karytaina or Karitaina () is a village and a community in Arcadia, Greece. Karytaina is situated on a hill on the right bank of the river Alpheios, near its confluence with the Lousios. The village dates back to the Middle Ages, but its history is unknown before the Crusader conquest ca. 1205. Karytaina became the seat of a barony under the Frankish Principality of Achaea, and the Castle of Karytaina was built in the mid-13th century on a steep rocky outcrop by Baron Geoffrey of Briel. The area returned to Byzantine control in 1320, and came under Ottoman control in 1460. After a brief period of Venetian rule (1687–1715), Karytaina returned to Ottoman control, and prospered as an administrative and commercial centre.
