Pagan Passions
''Pagan Passions'' is a 1924 American silent drama film directed by Colin Campbell and starring Wyndham Standing, June Elvidge, and Barbara Bedford. Plot As described in a film magazine review, when her husband commits suicide, Dreka Langley leaves her new-born baby with a family in China and falls in love with John Dangerfield, a married man. The two live in the Chinese underworld and Mrs. Dangerfield obtains a divorce. Years later, Dangerfield reforms and seeks seclusion in a Chinese monastery, where he meets and adopts Billy, who is the boy that was deserted by Dreka. Billy is sent to an American college where he meets and falls in love with Shirley, who is Dangerfield's daughter. Billy believes his supposed half-caste nationality is a bar to their marriage, which is removed when Dreka, before dying, identifies Billy as her son. Colin Campbell (director)
James Colin Campbell (11 October 1859 – 26 August 1928) was a Scottish-born film director, actor and screenwriter. He directed more than 170 films between 1911 and 1924. He also wrote for 60 films between 1911 and 1922. He was born in Scotland, and died in Hollywood, California. Sam De Grasse
Samuel Alfred De Grasse (June 12, 1875 – November 29, 1953) was a Canadian actor. He was the uncle of cinematographer Robert De Grasse. Biography Samuel Alfred De Grasse was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick to Lange De Grasse (1828–1891) and Helene ( Comeau; 1836-?), both of French-Canadian descent. He trained to be a dentist, and married Annie McDonnell in 1904. Their daughter, Clementine Bell, was born in 1906. Annie died in 1909 while giving birth to another daughter, Olive, who also died. In 1910, Samuel was practicing dentistry and he and his daughter Clementine were living in Providence, Rhode Island along with his older sister, Mrs. Clementine Fauchy, and her 14-year-old son, Jerome Fauchy. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." Tully Marshall (born William Phillips; April 10, 1864 – March 10, 1943) was an American character actor. He had nearly a quarter century of theatrical experience before his debut film appearance in 1914 which led to a film career spanning almost three decades. Early years Marshall was born in Nevada City, California. Rosemary Theby
Rosemary Theresa Theby (born Rose Masing, April 8, 1892 – November 10, 1973) was an American film actress. She appeared in some 250 films between 1911 and 1940. Early life and career The daughter of George and Katherine Masing, Theby was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She studied at the Convent of St. Alphonsus in St. Louis and at Sargent's School in New York City. A contemporary newspaper account described her as being of "medium-height, well proportioned, with regular features and dark hair". Theby began working with Vitagraph studios in 1910. Her first film experience came in that company's production of ''The Wager''. By 1915, she was a star for the Universal film company. During World War I Theby took care of a refugee from Lithuania.
