Paegam County
Paegam County is a ''kun'', or county, in Ryanggang province, North Korea. Geography The terrain is mountainous, as Paegam lies atop the Paektu Plateau, the site of North Korea's tallest mountains. The Hamgyŏng and Machŏllyŏng ranges pass through the county; the highest point is Kwesangbong. There are many streams; the chief of these is the Sodusu (서두수). There are also wetlands; some 91% of the county's area is forestland. Administrative divisions Paegam county is divided into 1 ''ŭp'' (town), 19 ''rodongjagu'' (workers' districts) and 4 ''ri'' (villages): Climate Due to its inland location, the county has a severely cold continental climate. Paegam also has the highest wind speeds of any district in North Korea. Economy Mining and logging are important local industries. Alunite
Alunite is a hydroxylated aluminium potassium sulfate mineral, formula K Al3( S O4)2(O H)6. It was first observed in the 15th century at Tolfa, near Rome, where it was mined for the manufacture of alum. First called ''aluminilite'' by J.C. Delamétherie in 1797, this name was contracted by François Beudant three decades later to alunite. Alunite crystals morphologically are rhombohedron, rhombohedra with interfacial angles of 90° 50', causing them to resemble cubes. Crystal symmetry is trigonal. Magnesite is a mineral with the chemical formula (magnesium carbonate). Iron, manganese, cobalt, and nickel may occur as admixtures, but only in small amounts. Hamgyong Mountains
The Hamgyong Mountains ( ko, , , ''Hamgyeong Sanmaek''), officially known as the Gangbaekjeonggan and formerly known as the or , is a North Korean mountain range.
