The Provincial Assembly of Sindh ( ur, ) is a unicameral legislature of elected representatives of the Pakistani province of Sindh, and is located in Karachi, the provincial capital. It was established under Article 106 of the Constitution of Pakistan having a total of 168 seats, with 130 general seats, 29 seats reserved for women and 9 seats reserved for non-Muslims. There was previously a Sind Legislative Assembly in the Sind Province of British India and in the early years of the state of Pakistan. Shikarpur ( sd, شڪارپور and ) ') is city and the capital of Shikarpur District in Sindh province of Pakistan. It is situated about 29 km west of the right bank of the Indus, with a railway station, 37 km north-west of Sukkur. It is the 42nd largest city of Pakistan by population according to the 2017 census. History According to a few historians the city of Shikarpur was revived during the Kalhora rule and that was what brought about a turnaround in making it the financial capital of not only South Asia but also of Central Asia. Some people think that the city was founded by Kalhoras' cousins Daudpotas --- and it was named Shikarpur because the Talpur Mirs were fond of shikar (hunting). Another school of thought believes Shikarpur was admittedly there before the shikar-loving Talpurs arrived on the scene; for another, Shikarpur has always been a trading and banking center, and never a hunting lodge. Shikarpur district ( sd, شڪارپور ضلعو, ur, ), is a district in Sindh province in Pakistan. The city of Shikarpur is the district headquarters. There are 4 talukas: Lakhi Ghulam Shah, Garhi Yasin, Khanpur and Shikarpur itself. It is spread over an area of 2,512 km2. History Shikarpur was an important place as commanding the trade route through the Bolan Pass, and its merchants have dealings with many towns in central Asia. 2024 Sindh Provincial Election
Provincial elections were held in Sindh on 8 February 2024 to elect a new provincial legislature. On 5 August 2023, after the approval of the results of the 2023 digital census by the Council of Common Interests headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, elections have been delayed for several months, as new delimitations will be published on 14 December 2023. On 2 November 2023, the Election Commission of Pakistan announced, in agreement with the President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, that the elections should be held on 8 February 2024. This election was held concurrently with nationwide general elections and other provincial elections. Background In the 2018 election, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) won 99 seats, gaining a majority in the Provincial Assembly. Agha Siraj Durrani
Agha Siraj Durrani (born 1953) is a Pakistani politician who is the current Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, in office since 2013. He was the Speaker of the 12th Provincial Assembly of Sindh. His father, Agha Sadaruddin, and uncle Agha Badruddin also served as speakers of the same assembly. He is ethnically Durrani Pashtun. Political career Hailing from Garhi Yasin, Durrani first contested elections in 1985 during the Zia regime, in which he lost. He joined the Pakistan Peoples Party and secured a victory in 1988 elections. He is a confidante of PPP chairman Asif Ali Zardari. In 1990, during Nawaz Sharif government he was imprisoned for some time for corruption charges. Durrani matriculated from the St Patrick's High School in Karachi in 1971, followed by a bachelor of commerce.
