"POD" (also known as "The Pick of Destiny") is a song by American rock band Tenacious D, featured on their 2006 second album ''The Pick of Destiny''. Written by Jack Black and Kyle Gass, the song was released as the lead single from the album on October 30, 2006. Music video The music video for "POD" was directed by Liam Lynch, produced by Grant Jue, of the Oil Factory production company and edited by David Rennie and Liam Lynch. Robert Brinkmann was the director of photography. In the video, Jack and Kyle go to a movie theatre to watch ''Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny'', but wind up disturbing the audience with their antics to the point where they are forcibly thrown out of their own movie. Tenacious D
Tenacious D is an American comedy rock duo formed in Los Angeles, California in 1994. It was founded by actors Jack Black and Kyle Gass, who were members of The Actors' Gang theater company at the time. The duo's name is derived from "tenacious defense", a phrase used by NBA basketball sportscasters Walt Frazier and Marv Albert. Prior to the release of Tenacious D's 2001 debut album ''Tenacious D'', the duo had a three-episode TV series released on HBO, with the episodes broadcasting between 1997 and 2000. This series came about after the band had met David Cross on the Los Angeles music scene—and Black featuring in episodes of ''Mr. Show with Bob and David''. The band also befriended former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, which began a working relationship between Foo Fighters and Tenacious D. William Patrick Niederst (born September 5, 1970), better known as Liam Lynch, is an American filmmaker, singer, musician, songwriter, and puppeteer. While studying at LIPA in Liverpool, Lynch co-created, co-wrote, directed, scored, and produced the 1998 MTV comedy puppet series ''The Sifl and Olly Show''. His 2003 album '' Fake Songs'' featured the song " United States of Whatever", which charted in the Top 10 in Australia and the United Kingdom. Ken Andrews (born Kenneth Andrew Doty; June 18, 1967) is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and record producer. Andrews was born in Seattle, Washington, and attended film school in Los Angeles before his band Failure received a record deal from Slash Records. John Konesky
John S. Konesky (born November 19, 1980) is an American guitarist and record producer, best known for his role as the lead electric guitar player for Tenacious D. Konesky was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, where he performed in a band with friend John Spiker. Through a mutual friend, he and Spiker met Tenacious D guitarist Kyle Gass, who was recruiting musicians for his Trainwreck with Kyle Gass, Trainwreck project. In 2003, Konesky relocated to Los Angeles to become the electric guitarist for Trainwreck. The album was released on November 14, 2006, through Epic Records, and debuted at number 8 on the ''Billboard'' 200.
