P. W. T. Simanjuntak
Parlindungan Wilfritz Togar Simanjuntak (16 July 1935 – 30 May 2021) was an Indonesian Lutheran minister. He was a member of the People's Representative Council from 1967 until 1971 and the ''Ephorus'' (chairman) of the Batak Christian Protestant Church (HKBP) from 17 February 1993 to 1 November 1998. Early life Parlindungan was born on 16 July 1935 in Sidikalang, Dairi, as the son of Cyrellus Simanjuntak. Cyrellus was a priest in the Batak Christian Protestant Church and one of the first disciples of Ludwig Ingwer Nommensen. At the age of two and a half years old, Parlindungan suffered a severe disease that caused his skin to be covered in boils. Cyrellus then prayed and stated that he would make his son a "servant to God" if he recovered from the disease. Parlindungan recovered from the disease several days later. Ludwig Ingwer Nommensen
Ludwig Ingwer Nommensen (6 February 1834 – 23 May 1918) was a German Lutheran Protestantism missionary to Sumatra who also translated the New Testament into the native Batak language and Batak script writing. Stephen Neill, a historian of missions, considered Nommensen one of the greatest missionaries of all time. He is commemorated as a missionary on 7 November in the Calendar of Saints of the Lutheran Church with John Christian Frederick Heyer and Bartholomäus Ziegenbalg. Nommensen was born in the Nordstrand peninsula in 1834, when the area was part of Denmark before it became part of Germany. In 1846, a horse cart rolled over his legs, crushing them. The initial prognosis was that he would be unlikely to walk again. After praying for recovery, some three years later, he was able to walk again.
