P. V. Kunhikannan who writes under the pen name P. V. K. Panayal is a Malayalam language writer and playwright from Kerala, India. Biography P. V. Kunhikannan was born in 1949 in the village of Panayal in Kasaragod district. At the age of 17, he started writing plays for the Thachangad Youth Arts Society. ''Avasana rangam'' (Meaning:The last scene), a two-hour long one-act play, was a remarkable breakthrough. Panayal's ''Cheriya maram valiya maram'' (Meaning:Small Tree Big Tree) is a play performed in many venues. His novel ''Suryapet'' which was wrote in the context of the Telangana agitation was made into play by theater group Kannur Sangh Chetana. within one year, that play was performed in 400 stages. Panayal is a village in Kasaragod district in the state of Kerala, India. It is situated approximately 6 km inland from the coastal town of Bekal. Panayal is 18.3 km by road from Kasaragod and around 14.9 km from Kanhangad. Sri Mahalingeshwara Aided Upper Primary School and the Sri Mahalingeshwara Shiva temple are located here. Kerala Folklore Academy
Kerala Folklore Academy is an autonomous center for cultural affairs constituted by the Government of Kerala and works under the Department of Cultural Affairs. It was established on 28 June 1995 to promote and project the traditional art forms of Kerala. It is located at Chirakkal, Kannur. The academy brings out a quarterly to promote the study and research in folklore, and has published more than 25 books on the folklore of Kerala. Kayyur Uprising
Kayyur incident also known as Kayyur uprising or Kayyur Revolt is a series of incidents that occurred in Kayyur village of present-day Kasaragod district during British rule in India. The peaceful farmers protest on 1941 March 28 turned violent and the mob accidentally killed a policeman. 61 were trialed for this violent deed and 4 persons were sentenced to death. Background Karnataka and Kasaragod district (which was part of South Canara earlier) were ruled by the Ikkeri Nayakas and the subsequent Kingdom of Mysore. These areas came under the control of the British after the defeat of Tipu Sultan in the Battle of Srirangapatna in 1799.
