P. G. Sethi
Prem Gopal "Biloo" Sethi (died c. 1981), was an Indian golfer. He was the only amateur to win the Indian Open, having done so in 1965. Career Sethi was born in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. Originally a cricketer, he took up golf after being left out the Indian cricket team. Playing at Royal Calcutta Golf Club, Sethi won the Indian Open by seven strokes over an international field which included Peter Thomson, beginning play with five-under 68s on the opening two days. This remained the only win by an Indian golfer of the tournament until 1991. Sethi was a six-time winner of the Amateur Golf Championship of Sri Lanka. Sethi was also a member of the Indian team which won the 1973 Asia-Pacific Championship in Jakarta. Sethi has been the namesake of several tournaments and trophies, including the Biloo Sethi Trophy, awarded at the All India Ladies' Open Amateur Golf Championships for aggregate best gross score over two days. Indian Open (golf)
The Indian Open, titled for sponsorship reasons as the Hero Indian Open since 2011, is the national open golf championship of India, organised by the Indian Golf Union. Founded in 1964, it was added to the Asia Golf Circuit schedule in 1970. In 1998 it became an event on the rival Omega Tour (known as the Asian Tour since 2004). Since 2015, it has also been co-sanctioned by the European Tour. From 1964 until 2000, the tournament was held exclusively at either Delhi Golf Club or Royal Calcutta Golf Club. Since then it has been held at Classic Golf Resort in 2000 and 2001, Karnataka Golf Association in 2012, and DLF Golf and Country Club in 2009 and since 2017; all other editions have been held at Delhi Golf Club. 1962 Eisenhower Trophy
The 1962 Eisenhower Trophy took place 10 to 13 October on the Fuji Golf Course at the Kawana Resort in Itō, Shizuoka, Japan. It was the third World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 23 four-man teams. The best three scores for each round counted towards the team total. United States retained the Eisenhower Trophy, finishing 8 strokes ahead of the silver medalists, Canada. Great Britain and Ireland finished 12 strokes behind Canada and took the bronze medal for the third successive time while New Zealand finished fourth. The Nomura Cup, also known as the Asia-Pacific Amateur Golf Team Championship, is a biennial amateur team golf championship for men organised by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation. The inaugural event was held in 1963 and it has been played in odd-numbered years since. Format Teams used to consist of four players but from 2022 the playing members have been reduced to three. The tournament is held over 4 days with 18 holes of stroke play on each day, the best two rounds counting for the team score. History In the early tournaments, only the Philippines, Japan and Chinese Taipei competed. By the eighth championship in 1977, held in Malaysia, a then record of 10 nations were competing.
