Ouda Tarabin
Ouda Tarabin ( ar, عودة ترابين, he, עודה תראבין; born in 1981) is an Israeli Bedouin who was imprisoned in Egypt for 15 years on suspicion of spying for Israel after illegally crossing the Israeli-Egyptian border. Tarabin, then aged 19, was arrested in 2000 after he illegally crossed the border from Israel (his brother suggests he went over to visit his sister in El-Arish). Illegal border crossings by the Bedouin residents of Israel and Egypt are not a rarity; Israel also occasionally arrests Egyptian crossers, who are returned over the border after a short interrogation. Ouda had previously crossed into Egypt; after his return to Israel, he was tried ''in absentia'' on charges of spying for Israel by an Egyptian military court. Bedouin
The Bedouin, Beduin, or Bedu (; , singular ) are nomadic Arab tribes who have historically inhabited the desert regions in the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, the Levant, and Mesopotamia. The Bedouin originated in the Syrian Desert and Arabian Desert but spread across the rest of the Arab world in West Asia and North Africa after the spread of Islam. Naama Issachar Affair
In April 2019 in Sheremetyevo International Airport, Russian authorities arrested Israeli-American Naama Issachar ( he, נעמה יששכר), a transit passenger flying from India to Israel, for alleged drug smuggling after some 10 grams of marijuana or hashish were found in her bag during a stopover in Moscow. On 11 October 2019 a Russian court sentenced her to seven and a half years in prison on drug possession and smuggling charges. Issachar's family and Israeli officials said that Russia told them she would be released if Aleksey Burkov (russian: Алексей Бурков), a Russian national pending extradition from Israel to the United States on suspicion of committing cyber crimes, was released to Russia. Moshe Marzouk
Moshe Marzouk ( he, משה מרזוק; or Musa Lieto Marzuk, ar, موسى ليتو مرزوق; born 20 December 1926 – 31 January 1955) was an Egyptian Karaite Jew, hanged in 1955 for his involvement in a series of bombings in Cairo codenamed '' Operation Suzannah''. Marzouk was born in Cairo to a Karaite family who had emigrated from Tunisia in the early 20th century, though they retained French citizenship. While working as a surgeon at the Jewish Hospital in Cairo in the early 1950s, he was recruited as a spy by Israeli military intelligence, along with other young Egyptian Jews. In 1954 the group carried out a series of bombings, targeting the post office in Alexandria, two libraries in Cairo and Alexandria, and a movie theatre. There were no casualties. Ilan Grapel Affair
The Ilan Grapel affair was an alleged Israeli espionage incident in Egypt involving dual U.S.-Israeli citizen Ilan Grapel. On 12 June 2011, Egyptian authorities arrested Grapel on charges of fomenting unrest in Egypt as a Mossad agent in the wake of the 2011 Egyptian revolution. While Israel and Grapel's friends and family firmly rejected the charges, the Egyptian government provided evidence to support its claim. On October 25, 2011, Israel and Egypt agreed on the release of Grapel in exchange for 25 Egyptian prisoners held in Israeli jails. Ayoob Kara
Ayoob Kara ( ar, أيوب قرا, he, איוב קרא; born 12 March 1955) is an Israeli Druze politician. He has served as a member of the Knesset for Likud in four spells between 1999 and 2021, and as Minister of Communications. Azzam Azzam ( ar, عزام عزام, Levantine Arabic: , he, עזאם עזאם; born 1962) is an Israeli Druze who was convicted in Egypt of spying for Israel, and jailed for eight years. He maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal. Arrest and trial Azzam is from the town of Maghar, Israel. A mechanic by training, he worked for Tefron, an Israeli textile company. As part of his work for Tefron, he made trips to Egypt to visit local factories which were subcontractors of the company.
