Ottensheim
Ottensheim is a municipality in the district of Urfahr-Umgebung in the Austrian state of Upper Austria. In July 2008 it hosted the World Rowing Championships, and it did so again in 2019. History First settlements in this area date from about 4000 BC. The first mention of the settlement in a document dates from 1148 AD. In 1228 AD, Ottensheim received the market right – as third town in Upper Austria, after Linz (1210) and Enns (city), Enns (1212). In 1527, the Habsburg-Monarch Ferdinand I, Holy Roman Emperor, Ferdinand I endowed the town and the castle to his chancellor Niklas Rabenhaupt von Suche, who expanded the castle. The coat of arms of Ottensheim dates from this time. Ottensheim has existed as a municipality since 1848. At this time and until 1893 the now self-contended municipality Puchenau also belonged to Ottensheim. In 1871 the first ferry over the Danube was installed. World Rowing Championships
The World Rowing Championships is an international rowing regatta organized by FISA (the International Rowing Federation). It is a week-long event held at the end of the northern hemisphere summer and in non-Olympic years is the highlight of the international rowing calendar. History The first event was held in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1962. The event then was held every four years until 1974, when it became an annual competition. Also in 1974, Men's lightweight and Women's open weight events were added to the championships. Initially, Men's events were 2000 metres long and Women's events 1000 metres. At the 1984 World Championships in Montreal, Canada, Women's lightweight demonstration events were raced over a 2000-metre course for the first time. Enns (city)
Enns () is a town in the Austrian state of Upper Austria on the river Enns, which forms the border with the state of Lower Austria. Enns was one of the first places in Austria to receive town privileges. The town charter dates to 22 April 1212; the document is displayed at the local museum. The date is also depicted on the Town Tower, the landmark of Enns. Geography Enns extends for 7.5 km from north to south and 8.6 km from west to east.
