Ottawa Sharpshooters
The Ottawa Sharpshooters were a junior ice hockey team from Almonte, Ontario, Canada. They began play in the 2016–17 season in the Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League (CPJHL). After two seasons in the CPJHL, the Sharpshooters joined the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL) for 2018–19. In December 2019, the Sharpshooters folded during their second season in the GMHL. History Originally part of the Ottawa Sharpshooters youth organization, the Jr. Sharpshooters were among the first organizations approved to play in the new United Hockey Union-sanctioned Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League. Almonte, Ontario
Almonte ( ; ) is a former mill town in Lanark County, in the eastern portion of Ontario, Canada. Formerly a separate municipality, Almonte is a ward of the town of Mississippi Mills, which was created on January 1, 1998, by the merging of Almonte with Ramsay and Pakenham townships. Almonte is south-west of downtown Ottawa. Its population as recorded in the 2016 Canadian Census was 5,039. History European settlement Almonte's first European-bred settler was David Shepherd, who in 1818 was given by the Crown to build and operate a mill. The site became known as Shepherd's Falls. Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League
The Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL) is a Canadian developmental junior ice hockey league. The league has primarily had teams in the Greater Toronto Area, Central Ontario, Northeastern Ontario, and Quebec. In 2019, they added three teams from Alberta. As of December 2019, the league's alumni page lists 889 players from 2006 to 2019 who graduated from the GMHL to play for NCAA colleges, various professional leagues, major junior teams, or represented their country in various IIHF World Championships. Junior hockey is a level of competitive ice hockey generally for players between 16 and 21 years of age. Junior hockey leagues in the United States and Canada are considered amateur (with some exceptions) and operate within regions of each country. The United Hockey Union (UHU), founded in 2012, is a group of ice hockey leagues in North America. The UHU is overseen and insured by the Amateur Athletic Union. Neither body is recognized by USA Hockey, Hockey Canada, or the International Ice Hockey Federation. History In 2011, the AAU expressed interest in sanctioning junior ice hockey leagues. The National College Prospects Hockey League was a junior ice hockey league based in Northeast United States and Ontario. During its first season, the NCPHL was sanctioned as a Tier III league by the United Hockey Union, the junior hockey branch of the Amateur Athletic Union. The Muskoka Wild were a United Hockey Union-sanctioned junior ice hockey team from Port Carling, Ontario, Canada. They were a member of the Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League and played in the 2016–17 season. Cobourg Galaxy
The Cobourg Galaxy were a United Hockey Union-sanctioned junior ice hockey team that played in Baltimore, Ontario, near Cobourg. They were a member of the Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League. History Formed in 2016 as the Norwood Nemesis, the franchise began play in the 2016–17 season. The Nemesis went through several management changes during the season, including their head coach.
