2016–17 CPJHL Season
The 2016–17 CPJHL season is the inaugural season of the Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League (CPJHL). The eight teams of the CPJHL play a 48-game schedule. League formation The CPJHL was announced in the spring of 2016. Originally, eleven teams were divided into two divisions and scheduled to begin play in September. The league plans to feature a 48-game schedule concluding in March and include an all-star game, college showcase event, and a league playoff. The league gained sanctioning by the United Hockey Union (UHU), the junior hockey branch of the Amateur Athletic Union, in June 2016. Before the league's first season would start, several of the announced teams had some further organizational changes: *Burk's Falls was initially introduced as the Warriors, but an ownership change saw the team renamed the Bruins. *The Almonte Jr. Sharpshooters were initially announced as the Ottawa Sharpshooters before making Almonte Community Center the home for the junior club. Seaforth, Ontario
Seaforth (2021 population: 2,673) is a Southern Ontario community in the municipality of Huron East, in Huron County, Ontario, Canada. History Originally known as ''Four Corners'' and ''Steene's Corners'' after an early settler, much of the area of what is now Seaforth was acquired by brothers Christopher and George Sparling in anticipation of the construction of the Buffalo, Brantford and Goderich Railway. Developer James Patton of Barrie purchased the land and laid out a townsite in 1855. The name 'Seaforth' may be derived from the Scottish Seaforth Highlanders regiment or Loch Seaforth in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. A post office was established in Seaforth in 1859. Incorporation as a Village followed in 1868 and as a Town in 1874. The Seaforth Generals are a United Hockey Union-sanctioned junior ice hockey team from Seaforth, Ontario, Canada. They are a member of the Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League and began play in the 2016–17 season. History Prior to settling on Seaforth, Generals' owner 28-year-old T.J. Runhart, also considered Monkton Ontario. There was also the possibility of placing the team in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL) but operating costs were too high. Markdale, Ontario
Markdale is a community in the Municipality of Grey Highlands, in Grey County, Ontario, Canada. The population was 1,216 in 2016, an increase of 3.5% from 1,175 in 2011. In 2016, the average age of the population was approximately 43 years old. History Markdale was first settled in 1846 and originally called East Glenelg, after a nearby township. In 1864, it was renamed Cornabus after the Scottish hometown, Islay, of the postmaster, Donald MacDuffie (1814–1892). The post office was established in 1869. In the 1870s, new railways were a vital economic engine for small Ontario towns, as evidenced by nearby Flesherton, which had failed to prosper after the Toronto, Grey and Bruce Railway decided to bypass it. In 1873, the same railway wanted to make Cornabus a stop on its route from Toronto to Owen Sound if it could find land on which to build a station. Essa Stallions
The Severn Stallions are a United Hockey Union-sanctioned junior ice hockey team from Severn, Ontario, Canada. They are a member of the Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League and began play in the 2016–17 season. For the team's first three seasons, it was known as the Essa Stallions in Essa, Ontario. History On May 4, 2016, proposals were made to Essa Township Council where it was agreed the Essa Stallions would be allowed to play in the fall of 2016 in the Angus Recreation Centre. Their first head coach would be Sylvain Cloutier, a 20-year hockey journeyman who has played in North America and England. Port Carling is an unincorporated community in the Township of Muskoka Lakes in the Canadian province of Ontario. It has been the municipal seat of the township since 1971.
