Osvaldo Civirani
Osvaldo Civirani (19 May 1917 - 20 February 2008) was an Italian still photographer, producer, director, cinematographer, screenwriter and author. Until 1963, Civirani worked mainly as still photographer on over two hundred films. From 1963 until 1976, Civirani produced and directed 20 films in such diverse genres as erotic mondo film, peplum, eurospy film, Spaghetti Western, costume drama, comedy, giallo, and exotic erotic drama. As author, he wrote two autobiographical books that were published in 1995 and 2003. Biography 1917-1963: Early life and work as still photographer Civirani was born in Rome as son of a photographer. ''The White Sheik'' ( it, Lo sceicco bianco) is a 1952 Italian romantic comedy film directed by Federico Fellini and starring Alberto Sordi, Leopoldo Trieste, Brunella Bovo and Giulietta Masina. The Reeperbahn () is a street and entertainment district in Hamburg's St. Pauli district, one of the two centres of Hamburg's nightlife (the other being Sternschanze) and also the city's major red-light district. The Berlin Wall (german: Berliner Mauer, ) was a guarded concrete barrier that encircled West Berlin from 1961 to 1989, separating it from East Berlin and East Germany (GDR). Construction of the Berlin Wall was commenced by the government of the GDR on 13 August 1961. It included guard towers placed along large concrete walls, accompanied by a wide area (later known as the "death strip") that contained anti-vehicle trenches, beds of nails and other defenses. The Eastern Bloc portrayed the Wall as protecting its population from fascist elements conspiring to prevent the "will of the people" from building a socialist state in the GDR. Techniscope
Techniscope or 2-perf is a 35 mm motion picture camera film format introduced by Technicolor Italia in 1960. The Techniscope format uses a two film-perforation negative pulldown per frame, instead of the standard four-perforation frame usually exposed in 35 mm film photography. Techniscope's 2.33:1 aspect ratio is easily enlarged to the 2.39:1 widescreen ratio, because it uses half the amount of 35 mm film stock ''and'' standard spherical lenses. Thus, Techniscope release prints are made by anamorphosizing and enlarging each frame by a factor of two. Moviola
A Moviola () is a device that allows a film editor to view a film while editing. It was the first machine for motion picture editing when it was invented by Iwan Serrurier in 1924. History Iwan Serrurier's original 1917 concept for the Moviola was as a home movie projector to be sold to the general public. The name was derived from the name "Victrola" since Serrurier thought his invention would do for home movie viewing what the Victrola did for home music listening. However, since the machine cost $600 in 1920 (), very few sold. An editor at Douglas Fairbanks Studios suggested that Iwan should adapt the device for use by film editors. Serrurier did this and the Moviola as an editing device was born in 1924, with the first Moviola being sold to Douglas Fairbanks himself. Dino Verde (13 July 1922 – 1 February 2004) was an Italian author, lyricist, playwright and screenwriter. Life and career Born Edoardo Verde in Naples, in 1943 he started working in the satirical magazine ''Marc'Aurelio''. Since the late 1940s Verde wrote revues and comedy plays for the most popular comedians of the time, including Macario, Nino Taranto, Aldo Fabrizi, Mario Riva and Riccardo Billi, Carlo Dapporto. In 1949 he started collaborating with EIAR, where he specialized in writing sketches and parody songs. Lallo Gori (7 March 1927 – 1 December 1982) was an Italian composer and musician. Life and career Born in Cervia, Ravenna as Coriolano Gori, Gori graduated in piano, harmony and composition at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Turin. He entered RAI as a member of its orchestra, then he became the musical director of its office in Rome. Gori was best known as a composer of scores for films, and composed around 80 of them. These included several Spaghetti Westerns, poliziotteschis and thrillers, such as ''Primitive Love'', ''Massacre Time'', ''Dead Men Don't Make Shadows'', ''Werewolf Woman'' and ''The Iron Commissioner''. The Arriflex 35, released by Arri in 1937, was the first reflex 35mm production motion picture camera. Function It was built around the spinning reflex twin-bladed "butterfly" mirror shutter designed by Erich Kästner, chief engineer at Arnold & Richter Cine Technik (ARRI), Arri Group, set at 45 degrees horizontally to the lens axis. This mirror reflex system was invented in 1931. Modern standard models have a maximum shutter exposure opening of 165 degrees, (not 180 degrees as claimed in Arri manuals), the 35 IIC-BV model having a variable shutter. Adnkronos is an Italian news agency. History and profile Adnkronos was established in 1963 by a merger of two agencies, ''Kronos'' (founded in 1951) and ''Agenzia Di Notizie'' (founded in 1959).
