''Os Dias da MadreDeus'' (English: "The days of MadreDeus") is the debut studio album by Portuguese group Madredeus. It was released in December 1987 by EMI-Valentim de Carvalho. Recording ''Os Dias da MadreDeus'' was recorded between 28 and 30 July 1987, at the Teatro Ibérico facilities in the old Church of the Xabregas Convent, in Lisbon. Legacy In 2009, Portuguese music magazine Blitz placed ''Os Dias da MadreDeus'' as the 5th greatest Portuguese album of the 1980s, in a list ranking the greatest Portuguese albums of the previous four decades. Valentim de Carvalho () is a Portuguese record label founded in 1914. History The company started selling phonograph, musical instruments and music since its 1914 foundation at the Rua da Assunção, Lisbon. It distributes EMI in Portugal since 1920. VDC also carved names in the Portuguese music industry like Amália Rodrigues, António Variações and, most recently, Os Pontos Negros. It has two sub-labels: Popular and NorteSul. Pedro Aires Ferreira de Almeida Gonçalves Magalhães (born 31 July 1959), known as Pedro Ayres Magalhães, is a Portuguese musician, best known as a founding member and the main songwriter of the musical group Madredeus. Magalhães has also been a member of the pop rock band Heróis do Mar and the Portuguese supergroup Resistência. Early life Pedro Ayres Magalhães was born on 31 July 1959. ''Existir'' (English: "To exist") is the second studio album by Portuguese group Madredeus. It was released on 12 May 1990 through EMI-Valentim de Carvalho. Style The music in ''Existir'' uses the same instrumentation as its predecessor, with classical guitar, keyboards, accordion, cello and vocals by Teresa Salgueiro. Madredeus () are a Portuguese musical ensemble formed in 1985, in Lisbon. Their music combines traditional Portuguese music, fado and folk music. Madredeus are one of the most successful music groups from Portugal, having sold over 3 million albums worldwide. Maria Teresa de Almeida Salgueiro OIH () is a Portuguese singer. She is best known as the lead singer of Madredeus from 1987 until 2007. She also appeared in Wim Wenders' film '' Lisbon Story.''
