Os Charlins
Los Charlines ( gl, Os Charlíns) is the name by which one of the most important drug trafficking clans in Galicia is known, together with the Oubiña and the Miñanco. The clan is made up of Manuel Charlín Gama, his wife and their children Manuel, María Teresa, Melchor and Yolanda, and their cousin, Josefa. History The beginnings of the clan are in the black market, the smuggling of food and other products during the Franco regime. Starting in 1975, the clan maintained business, introducing scrap metal and penicillin into Spain from Portugal. Later, they moved on to tobacco smuggling, where the blond batea was sold in bars in the 1980s and early 1990s. Galician Clans
Galician clans are the drug smuggling groups in the Spanish region of Galicia. Due to the activities of these clans, Galicia is often cited as being the main European entry point for Colombian cocaine. Activities Traditionally the region of Galicia made its money from the fishing industry, to which the coastal geography of the region lent itself. Following the crippling of the fishing industry, local fishermen began smuggling tobacco to keep their business alive. The successfulness of these tobacco smuggling activities led to the creation of clan-based groups who made their entire living off smuggling. Laureano Oubiña
Laureano Oubiña Piñeiro (born 1946), also known as ''El Pajarito'' (The Birdie), is a Spanish smuggler and drug trafficker. Personal life Born in Cambados, Oubiña began working in his parents' grocery store at the age of 10, and by 15 was distributing products by van to street hawkers. He began his criminal career at the age of 17, at first participating in diesel smuggling with his uncle, and a few months later founding his own black market tobacco company. He married Rosa María Otero at the age of 18, and went on to have eight children with her; however, they divorced in 1983. After the divorce, he began a relationship with Esther Lago, who had been his secretary, and had an additional three children with her. Lago died in a traffic accident on 28 February 2001. SITO is an online artist collective which began in January 1993, making it one of the oldest Internet-based art organizations. It was started by Ed Stastny and has been maintained by Stastny and a group of volunteers and supporters. __NOTOC__ From its beginning, SITO had a mission different from many established Internet art resources, in that rather than be an electronic journal of discussions or writings about art, it chose to be a repository for artwork in order to facilitate sharing and exposure. Operation Necora ( es, Operación Nécora, lit. Velvet Crab) was a major Spanish police operation against drug traffickers in Galicia, Spain. It led to the arrest of 54 people. Cambados
Cambados is a municipality in Galicia, Spain in the province of Pontevedra. It is known for its historical monuments, its seafood and the famous white wine, Albariño. Culture Fishing is a major industry in this coastal area of Galicia (called Rias baixas). In Cambados, fish and seafood sellers sell at what is called La Plaza, which is a great and hallowed installation that is very busy every morning (except for Sundays), as fish is usually part of the daily diet. La ría de Arousa, the body of water that surrounds this area, is rich in many types of seafood, as well.
