Oromocto-Gagetown
Oromocto was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. The district was created in 1973 from the old multi-member district of Sunbury, taking in the Town of Oromocto, CFB Gagetown and immediate surrounding areas. In 1994 its boundaries were considerably expanded, taking in larger parts of Sunbury County and parts of Queens County and it was renamed Oromocto-Gagetown (in recognition of the Village of Gagetown, not the Canadian Forces Base known as CFB Gagetown). Vaughn Blaney
Vaughn Blaney (born August 13, 1938) is a former educator and political figure in New Brunswick, Canada. He represented Queens South and then Oromocto-Gagetown in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1987 to 1999 as a Liberal member. He was born in Saint John, New Brunswick and was educated at the University of Moncton and University of New Brunswick. Blaney was a teacher and principal. He also served as mayor of Gagetown. Blaney was Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment from 1987 to 1989, Minister of Environment from 1989 to 1991 and from 1995 to 1997, Minister of Advanced Education and Labour from 1991 to 1994, and Minister of Education and Minister of State for Youth from 1994 to 1995. New Brunswick Electoral Redistribution, 2006
The 2006 New Brunswick electoral redistribution was undertaken as a result of legislation introduced by Bernard Lord, the Premier of New Brunswick, Canada, on June 9, 2005. The legislation establishes a statutory requirement for redistribution of electoral districts after every decennial Canadian census. The redistribution process set out in the legislation took approximately six months to complete, and was overseen by an independent commission. The bill introduced by the government would have required that 55 ridings be maintained with populations varying between 75% and 110% of 1/55 of the provincial population. The Opposition Liberals expressed a desire for the commission to have greater flexibility either in the variance of the average population or in the number of districts. Jody Carr
Jody Rochelle Carr (born July 3, 1975) is a Canadian politician. He is a former member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, from 1999 to 2018, and served in the cabinet for part of 2006 as well as 2010-2014. Political career He first got involved with politics in 1993 just after graduating from Oromocto High School as class president by volunteering in the 1993 federal election. While still in university, Carr ran in the riding of Oromocto-Gagetown for the first time in the 1995 provincial election and was the youngest ever Progressive Conservative candidate for MLA in New Brunswick at the age of 20. Carr received 28% of the vote which was the best showing of all 8 PC candidates in the greater Fredericton Region. The 1994 New Brunswick electoral redistribution was the first re-alignment of electoral districts in New Brunswick, Canada, since 1973. Under this redistribution, several districts were changed significantly due to considerable population shifts from the northern part of the province to the south. The total number of districts was reduced from 58 to 55. Due to considerable population shifts over the course of two decades, some ridings were merged, while others were split in two, and some were unchanged. Joseph Mombourquette
Joseph William "Joe" Mombourquette (September 9, 1922 – November 27, 2007) was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and political figure in New Brunswick. He represented Oromocto in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1982 to 1987. Biography He was born in Lower L'Ardoise, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, the son of Anthony Mombourquette and Clara Sampson. He was a member of the Canadian Army for 32 years, serving during World War II and the Korean War. He received a B.A. from Saint Francis Xavier University in 1952. New Maryland-Sunbury
New Maryland-Sunbury is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. History It was created in 1994 as a totally new district taking in large parts of York South and Sunbury as well as small pieces of several other districts. In the 2006 redistribution of districts, it lost the community of Lincoln due to the rapid growth of both Lincoln and the village of New Maryland, both bedroom communities for Fredericton.
