Vaughn Blaney
Vaughn Blaney (born August 13, 1938) is a former educator and political figure in New Brunswick, Canada. He represented Queens South and then Oromocto-Gagetown in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1987 to 1999 as a Liberal member. He was born in Saint John, New Brunswick and was educated at the University of Moncton and University of New Brunswick. Blaney was a teacher and principal. He also served as mayor of Gagetown. Blaney was Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment from 1987 to 1989, Minister of Environment from 1989 to 1991 and from 1995 to 1997, Minister of Advanced Education and Labour from 1991 to 1994, and Minister of Education and Minister of State for Youth from 1994 to 1995. The Department of Environment was the Government of New Brunswick ministry charged with planning land use, zoning development and waste management as well as the enforcement of environmental legislation and regulations. It was created in its current form on February 14, 2006 when it was separated from the Department of Environment and Local Government. It has however existed in this form on previous occasions. It was first formed by Premier Richard Hatfield when he took office following the 1970 election. 5th Canadian Division Support Base (5 CDSB) Gagetown, formerly known as and commonly referred to as CFB Gagetown, is a large Canadian Forces Base covering an area over , located in southwestern New Brunswick. Agent Orange
Agent Orange is a chemical herbicide and defoliant, one of the "tactical use" Rainbow Herbicides. It was used by the U.S. military as part of its herbicidal warfare program, Operation Ranch Hand, during the Vietnam War from 1961 to 1971. It is a mixture of equal parts of two herbicides, 2,4,5-T and 2,4-D. In addition to its damaging environmental effects, traces of dioxin (mainly TCDD, the most toxic of its type) found in the mixture have caused major health problems for many individuals who were exposed, and their offspring. Agent Orange was produced in the United States from the late 1940s and was used in industrial agriculture and was also sprayed along railroads and power lines to control undergrowth in forests. Gagetown (2016 population: 711) is a village in Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada. It is situated on the west bank of the Saint John River and is the county's shire town. History Acadians Gagetown was originally named Grimross by the Acadians and Maliseet, who lived there prior to the Expulsion of the Acadians. The Raid on Grimross occurred during the St. John River Campaign (1758–59). During the Expulsion of the Acadians, many Acadians fled from various parts of the Maritimes to villages along the Saint John River. The St. John River Campaign occurred during the French and Indian War when Colonel Robert Monckton led a force of 1,150 British soldiers to destroy the Acadian settlements on the banks of the Saint John River until they reached the largest village of Ste Anne's Point (present day Fredericton, New Brunswick) in February 1759.
